Mortal Kombat 11 Player Discovers Meteor Secret After Ed Boon Tease

The Mortal Kombat franchise has a long history with secrets and Easter eggs, leading fans to scour each new game that releases for hidden content. Players have experienced hidden fights with characters, discovered weird origin stories for more than a few characters like Ermac, and plenty more. Mortal Kombat 11, the latest release in the long running franchise, has had no shortage of secrets, with one player finally solving a long running mystery.

Almost one year ago, a strange meteor began flying across the the sky in the Towers of Time mode every two hours. Mortal Kombat 11 players discovered that the event seemed to happen at specific time intervals, about 10 minutes past the hour, leading many to assume that some input was required to trigger an event. Unfortunately, the answer always seemed to allude the community as the secret went left undiscovered until a random tweet seemingly inspired the answer.

Earlier this week, Ed Boon posted a short clip of the meteor event revealing a hidden event that can be triggered but didn’t confirm the inputs needed. Apparently, that short tease was all one person needed to figure it out. Mortal Kombat 11 modder TheThiny solved the correct inputs, timing, and event that occurs after creating a mod that constantly spawns the meteor to allow for all sorts of directional and button combinations to be tried.

In the end, it was discovered that when the meteor appears, players need to press left, up, left, right, left, up, up. Doing so quickly enough during the meteor’s appearance will summon a new Tower set to hard difficulty. Players will also need a lot of resources in order to actually play the random tower, requiring 250,000 Koins, 500 Hearts, and 2,500 Soul Fragments. Once unlocked, players will have one hour to play it as many times as they want, though if players leave the Towers of Time screen, this new Tower will disappear.

The rewards for this tower should please fans, unlocking an augment for a character played against and two for the character that is being played as. In addition, players unlock 1 random Kombat League character skin as well.

As exciting as this discovery is for players, it’s unlikely the final secret. Many players have been attempting to discover a hidden fight against Reptile, a classic fighter that unfortunately has not made the cut for the roster in Mortal Kombat 11. While players can unlock a costume for Scorpion, rumors have been circulating lately that the green ninja is hiding in the game’s files as a secret fight. To this point, no one has been able to discover what it takes to trigger the hidden event or if it’s even possible at all.

Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
