Earlier this month, Sony released the PlayStation 5, and the next-gen console’s launch has been extremely successful, with some reports stating that the PS5 sold twice as much at launch as the Xbox Series X/S. Although not everyone could get their hands on the PS5, those lucky enough to secure one are now discovering its next-generation features. However, several players are now reporting that the PS5 prevents them from publishing a post on Twitter if the console detects profanity in the tweet.
According to several players, the PS5 won’t allow the tweet to go online unless they remove all profanity in the post. However, some also noticed that the PS5’s built-in profanity filter also prohibits posts that do not contain any profanity at all. One example is from Twitter user Patrick Beja, who attempted to tweet about his positive experience in Astro’s Playroom. The user shared a screenshot online showing that his tweet did not contain any profanity. However, the console is still preventing his tweet from going live, prompting the player to “remove profanity to continue.”
Interestingly enough, this censor feature in the PS5 was not mentioned in the console’s parental controls, and several players speculate that this feature cannot be removed. It remains a mystery why Sony has decided to include a profanity filter when making tweets via the console when Twitter itself does not have any form of filtering for everyday profanity. Sony has not commented on the censorship feature or the backlash it has since created, but the company will likely make some statement regarding the issue.
Meanwhile, players who could not purchase a PS5 at launch will be disappointed to know that stock is still pretty much non-existent. Although several major retailers are offering the PS5 for Black Friday, most of them are already sold out due to high demand. Several days ago, Jim Ryan, the President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed that “absolutely everything is sold,” referring to the stock problem that PlayStation users are now experiencing.
However, Sony confirms that more PS5s are on the way this year in a post on Twitter. According to the official PlayStation account, demand for the PS5 is unprecedented, which is why the company was unable to keep up with demand, but promises that more PS5s will be released to retailers before the end of 2020. While it did not confirm when exactly the restock will happen, players should keep in touch with their local retailers to ensure that they get one this time around.
The PlayStation 5 is available now.
