Apex Legends Season 7 has given players all sorts of new ways to engage in its battle royale gameplay, but it has also given them new ways to goof around. As with any major update, a few new glitches have made their way into the game, and while some have been causing serious problems like resetting battle pass progress, others have made it possible for players to turn the game’s new hovercraft, the Trident, into a truly aerial vehicle.
Season 7 may have introduced a new character, Horizon, and map, Olympus, but it has also introduced rideable vehicles to Apex with the Trident. Its addition has provided teams with more ways to get around the map than ever before and cover more ground in less time, though it turns out that one of those options is very unintentional. It is, however, very effective.
At the moment, there’s an interesting glitch in the game that can cause the Trident to all of a sudden be launched into the air at high speeds, using Octane’s jump pad. Better yet, it’s pretty easy to pull off, as all one needs to do is place a jump pad right under a respawn beacon (or an open supply bin, but the beacon reportedly works best) and then drive the Trident into it. This can be seen in a video from Rock Paper Shotgun that shows multiple instances of the glitch in action.
Easy though it may be to launch the vehicle across Apex Legends‘ newest map, actually using it to one’s advantage seems to be a trickier challenge. Judging from Rock Paper Shotgun’s footage, players seem just as likely to send themselves flying far outside the circle or even clean off the map as they are to launch in the desired direction. That said, it is possible to end up landing precision shots, as illustrated by this Reddit clip of pilots launching themselves only to perfectly land their Trident in the narrow opening of one of Olympus’ towers. “Threading the needle” indeed.
Given the inconsistency here, it’s not likely that this will become a common strategy for moving around Olympus or getting to a faraway circle in a pinch, but it does provide plenty of opportunities for a good laugh, making it the latest hilarious glitch Season 7 has provided so far.
As for whether or not Respawn Entertainment might patch it out, that remains to be seen. Despite being very glitchy, one can argue that it’s not as problematic as some of the other issues that have been discovered lately, like the game-crashing bug that was caused by players trying to place Rampart’s turret on the Trident. Still, anyone interested in testing out the glitch for themselves may want to do so soon, before Respawn can fix it.
Apex Legends is free-to-play on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version coming in 2021.
