John Travolta Shows Off His Pulp Fiction Moves in New Christmas ad

In 2013 Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction was selected for preservation in the U.S. Library of Congress, a notable gesture towards one of the most influential films of the 90’s, but hardly a necessary one considering how the internet has taken care of safeguarding that legacy with an endless supply of memes. Whether it’s Confused Travolta GIFs or ingeniously captioned images of Samuel L. Jackson, Pulp Fiction is simply too big for pop culture.

One of Pulp Fiction’s most iconic scenes is of course Mia Wallace and Vincent Vega’s diner dance off to Chuck Berry’s “You Can Never Tell”, a bit so legendary it’s been parodied countless times in all types of media, but rarely with John Travolta himself as the one busting out the moves.

For that reason, seeing Travolta dressed as Santa proving he’s still got plenty of rhythm is such a wholesome sight, viewers might altogether forget they’ve just watched a bank advertisement from Capital One. Wait until the end for the shoeless Travolta dance, this time to Berry’s own “Run Rudolph Run”, which is just as groovy even if more tuned to the Holiday spirit.

Now, unfortunately Capital One couldn’t book Uma Thurman as Mrs. Claus, but they did convince Jackson to show up with a clean mouth just for Santa, all while sporting a Happy Holidays “with Cheese” t-shirt, for a full Pulp Fiction Christmas Eve attire.

Perhaps it’s a shame that Jackson and Travolta don’t go into full Julius Winnfield and Vincent Vega mode, though on second thought a pair of conversational hitmen don’t necessarily fit the Holiday theme advertisement as well as some good old nostalgia. The video also doesn’t waste valuable advertising time dwelling into what a Quarter Pounder with cheese is called in the North Pole.

It’s almost always a hit when stars agree to have some fun with the roles that made them famous, just ask Bruce Willis and his John McClane with a dead battery ad or Sylvester Stallone and his fantastic Mortal Kombat collaboration as Rambo. Whatever the case, let’s just hope Santa can deliver those 3,000 bolo ties on his list.
