Old School RuneScape: 10 Pro Tips For Leveling Magic | Game Rant

Yes, Runescape is still a thing! Fans of Runescape have been able to re-live the adventure of this definitive MMORPG ever since Old School Runescape was officially released back in February 2013. Among the three combat classes, warrior, ranger, and mage, there is one skill that is especially important: magic.

Plenty of players didn’t play Runescape back in the day, and some who did undoubtedly weren’t in-depth experts on leveling. Having a strong magic level plays a role in defense against magic damage, enchanting items, teleporting, and even in making money through High Level Alchemy. As one of the best ways to make coins in the game, it’s essential to know how to level up this skill.

10 Early Combat

Players don’t have to spend tons of real-life money to level up their magic early, they just need to make smart decisions on where to engage in combat. Strike spells may be weak but are available for free-to-play players and are perfect for this task. Elemental staves can help cover the expensive casting costs so players can gain 2 magic experience per cast as they attack goblins, cows, or monks.

9 Splashing

Splashing was actually quite controversial in Old School Runescape. However, it is still an effective leveling tool for magic, especially at lower levels. To Splash, players equip items that total a -65 magic attack. That’s right, a negative amount of magic! From here, players attack weak opponents that other players can’t target while turning on auto-retaliate. Players just need to make sure to interact with the game client on occasion to avoid the hidden update that made Splashing harder to do.

8 Quick Questing

Massive raids may look tempting on the surface, but the rare drops aren’t going to speed up gaining levels. Plus, gathering many players together can take time — time that could be spent gaining levels in magic. Instead, players should carefully select quests that will help them gain magic skills faster and cheaper.

The quests Imp Catcher and Witch’s Potion both offer experience and don’t require runes to complete. They each also offer level 10 magic and are available to free-to-play players.

7 Teleporting

This method works well for free-to-play players as well as pay-to-play, though it’s a more expensive method in terms of coins for the former. Players should travel to Zaff’s Superior Staffs! and purchase a Staff of air for this method to reduce the expenses of spell casting. For free-to-play players, casting Varrock Teleport, Lumbridge Teleport, and Falador teleport (depending on level) is the way. For pay-to-play players, using Camelot Teleport can earn 80,000 experience an hour.

6 High Level Alchemy

Players wanting to try and make some coins while gaining experience will want to try this method if they can. The spell High Level Alchemy converts items into coins and selecting the correct items can allow crafty players to not take losses. Going to the Alchemist’s room in the Mage Training Arena can result in no rune costs for the spell to help reduce costs. This method also can work well when training other skills as players can convert the other various items they pick up during training.

5 Tele-Alching

The last two methods both work well, but what if they were combined together? Tele-alching is a complex method requiring strict timing, but the payout can be 120,000 to 130,000 an hour, or even 152,000 an hour if they have enough coins to spend.

Here’s how the method works: use High Alchemy on an item, teleport immediately after, click on the High Alchemy before you spawn, then click on the item when you spawn. Confused? This video guide is quite helpful.

4 Pest Control

This cooperative method for gaining magic experience is also very safe, making it an excellent choice for gaining magic experience. Players using this mini-game for training magic should try to cast Ice Burst as it will provide the most possible experience. Ice Burst can also be handy for training when fighting maniacal monkeys on Ape Atoll.

3 Superheat Items

For players not as big on combat, using the spell Superheat Item is an excellent option to gain magic experience. When optimized, this method can provide 97,000 experience an hour. This method is, however, quite the gamble in terms of how many coins must be spent. If done carefully, players can make a profit or at least break even. Players just shouldn’t be surprised if they’re taking losses when they start.

2 Leather Tanning

To use this method, players must have access to the lunar spellbook as well as have completed the Hard Fremenik Diary. Then all it takes is to cast Tan Leather and gain the 81 magic experience per cast. Smart players will do this method at the Grand Exchange to easily be able to buy and sell the materials they need. Players should also make sure to avoid any scams when trying to buy or sell your goods — players may not only be able to make a profit, but a potential 120,000 experience per hour.

1 Stringing Jewelry

This method not only offers 150,000 magic experience an hour, but 6,265 crafting experience as well! Players with access to the lunar spellbook can cast the spell String Jewelry. Players will need a large supply of amulets to work with, and it is recommended to use a mud battlestaff to reduce potential costs. Players can acquire this staff by defeating Dagannoth Prime and getting it as a drop.
