Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a game that took the world by storm without a hitch. Though many will argue that the game’s success was due to the popularity of its predecessor, the quality of this game itself is nothing to be scoffed at.
Insomniac Games made a fantastic game and they were able to create a Miles Morales character that is both familiar and unique at the same time. Although the game is smaller in scale, players will still be able to invest hours upon hours of playtime if they want to see everything this game has to offer. That includes the easter eggs and the many hidden locations only fans of the character and his mythology will recognize.
10 Vanessa’s Vault
Wilson Fisk is one of Spider-Man’s most formidable enemies. While Miles doesn’t exactly fight him in this game the way Peter did in the last, his presence is still felt all throughout the game.
During one of the missions, Miles infiltrates one of Fisk’s former properties, which the Underground has made their own. In one of these areas, a massive portrait of Vanessa, Wilson Fisk’s beloved partner, can be seen inside a vault.
9 Wakandan Embassy
Black Panther has started becoming one of the most recognizable superheroes of all time. Not only is he an overall interesting character, but his background and mythology make the Marvel universe a bigger world than it already is.
Those who know Black Panther also know his home country of Wakanda. Both the character and his country are referenced quite a lot in this game. Players can find the Wakandan Embassy in Midtown. There’s also a street in the game that’s a tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman.
8 Sanctum Santorum
The Sanctum Sanctorum is very recognizable for its mystical glass paneling atop the building, and of course, being the home of Doctor Strange and his sorcerer buddies.
This iconic location amazed players when it made an appearance in the previous Spider-Man game. Once again, the Sanctum can be seen in that very same location in this game. Those who want to check out the location itself to see if the doctor is in can head to Greenwich. The building stands out so it shouldn’t be that difficult to spot.
7 Atop The Empire State
New York City is home to a ton of iconic landmarks and tourist spots. Insomniac Games did a remarkable job of recreating the massive city into this game and many of the landmarks that are world-famous can even be visited in this game.
One of the most famous landmarks in New York City is the Empire State Building. Millions upon millions of people visit this building every year just to see its herculean height in its full glory. One of the reasons people visit the building is to head up to the observatory. The exact same place can be visited here, minus the long elevator ride.
6 Jefferson Davis’ Memorial
Jefferson Davis was Miles Morales’ father. He was a cop who served in New York City and even helped Spider-Man from time to time in the previous game, until his unfortunate demise.
During an award ceremony where Jefferson was honored for bravery and valor in service, the Inner Demons attacked and bombed the venue, costing many people their lives—including Jefferson Davis’. Going to that exact location in this game, players will find a memorial for those who fell on that fateful day.
5 Stan Lee’s Statue
There wouldn’t be a Spider-Man if it weren’t for Stan Lee. Stan Lee has made a gigantic contribution to the comic book world by creating many of the superheroes we all know and love today. He passed away in 2018 and various forms of media have been paying tribute to him since.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales pays tribute to Stan the Man by putting up a massive statue of him on the Upper West Side. The statue can be located right beside Mick’s Diner, the place where he makes his cameo in the previous game.
4 The Cemetary
One thing Peter Parker and Miles Morales have in common, aside from sharing the same superpower after being bitten by a genetically-altered spider, is that they’ve both lost family members who are very dear to them. Peter Parker lost both Ben and May Parker, his uncle and aunt, and Miles lost his father.
There is a cemetery in Harlem you can visit in this game where players can pay respect to those who have departed. Players will find the resting places of May and Ben Parker right beside each other, and one for Jefferson Davis.
3 The Murals
Miles Morales is a man of the people, a trait he got from his father and from being Peter Parker’s protege. His influence and relevance are also felt in the real world. In a time like today, a character like Miles Morales is a good symbol and proper model for the younger generation to look up to.
As a way of acknowledging and paying tribute to the real-world struggles felt by the African-American community, if the players manage to complete every Spider app activities and crimes, they’ll be taken to a gorgeously-made mural of the Black Lives Matter movement.
2 The Weeping Mannequins
The Weeping Angels are enigmatic creatures fans of the popular television series Doctor Who will surely be familiar with. They’re only capable of moving, or choose to, when nobody is looking at them. This is the very feature that makes them very creepy and haunting. Ever since their television debut, other franchises have been referencing the Weeping Angels. Spider-Man: Miles Morales has done the newest one.
During one of the Roxxon hideout side missions, Miles will be taken to a secured location that once belonged to Tombstone eerily filled with mannequins. These mannequins aren’t exactly mystical in the same way the Weeping Angels are, but their presence and how they move from one place to another is certainly a reference to them.
1 The Boats
Spider-Man games have advanced in graphics and gameplay throughout the years. While the new games look incredibly spectacular, the older games are still beloved to this day for their fine job of honoring the popular pop culture icon.
Both Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales pay tribute to the older games in the most hilarious of ways. In the previous game, if players head offshore far enough to reach the boats, they’ll be greeted with poorly rendered NPCs reminiscent of the character models of older games. In this same game, those same NPCs are found in the same place, but this time they have a note on their chest that says “Did you miss me?”
