Destiny 2 Players Beat Deep Stone Crypt Raid Without Weapons

Destiny 2 players are always looking for new ways to push the game and its various challenges to its limits, and a new gameplay clip shows yet another way that has been done. YouTuber CommanderCuesta and his team have defeated the final boss of the new Deep Stone Crypt raid without using any weapons.

This type of challenge is nothing new in Destiny 2, as players have been trying to beat certain bosses without weapons since the original Destiny. Even so, given how new the raid is, this type of mastery over its mechanics and cohesiveness as a team is impressive to witness.

In lieu of weapons, players are able to only use abilities and melee in order to deal damage. This includes ultimates, grenades, and any other ability that is activated without firing or swinging a weapon. Naturally, this takes a lot longer to defeat bosses and is much riskier, but it’s a viable strategy.

In terms of strategy, it seems that most of the players in the raid group were rocking the Stormcaller Warlock subclass, making excellent use of that class’ Chaos Reach ability. Whenever they are able, they save their ability cooldowns for dealing damage to the Taniks, the boss, and instead team up and focus melee attacks on regular enemies that are causing issues. This allows for the players’ most devastating abilities to go where they’re needed, but teamwork is required to take down even regular enemies with just melee attacks.

To make matters more impressive, this isn’t just a game of patience and attrition, as the team is racing against the clock as well. If left undefeated for too long, Taniks enters an enraged state, killing the entire party immediately. Because of this, CommanderCuesta and his team had to find a way to lower Taniks’ health down to 15% before this happened, requiring a bit of luck and wise allocation of the team’s resources. As the video above shows, they came close to reaching this point, but were able to pull through thanks to concentrated use of the Chaos Reach ultimate.

Following their accomplishment, CommanderCuesta posted the video online, claiming that he plans to submit it to Bungie’s Movie of the Week. Given the difficulty of this task, it may well win that spot, but there are other impressive feats to stand up to as well. For example, Slayerage defeated the Atraks-1 boss fight solo, so there’s a lot of contest.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
