Ever since the release of the Nintendo Switch in 2017, the hybrid console has been one of the most popular gaming devices on the market. Given that a Nintendo Switch doesn’t come cheap, it is always important to keep the console as clean as possible to prolong its life, and Nintendo just shared some tips on how to disinfect the Switch and its accessories safely.
According to Nintendo’s English support page, players who find themselves in need of disinfecting their Switch consoles may use alcohol-based products to clean their devices. It is worth noting that Nintendo recommends players only to use consumer-grade alcohol that is solely intended for disinfection. The company also suggests alcohol products that don’t go beyond 70%, and players should only apply it on a soft cloth and lightly wipe the console. One important thing to remember is to not pour the alcohol directly on the Switch, given that doing this could result in major problems.
Additionally, the same method can be used to disinfect the Switch’s Joy-Con controllers, but players should be extra careful not to push in debris inside the controllers, given that this could result in Joy-Con drift. Interestingly enough, it is worth remembering that Nintendo previously stated that alcohol products should never be used to clean the Switch but it appears that the company has changed its stance, especially with the on-going threat of the current pandemic. For players who are unsure of whether alcohol will ruin the Switch’s finish, it is recommended to try a small amount in an inconspicuous spot first, before wiping the entire console.
In other Switch news, Nintendo still hasn’t revealed any plans for a successor to the Switch, despite the release of Sony and Microsoft’s next-gen consoles. Even without an official statement, several rumors continue to claim that Nintendo is currently working on a Pro version of the device. While this remains unconfirmed, it is alleged that the Switch Pro will feature an upgraded screen that will replace the original’s LCD with a mini-LED screen. Meanwhile, other reports claim that the rumored Switch Pro will include support for 4K resolution, which is a massive upgrade to the 720p resolution of the current Switch when undocked.
Although Nintendo is still keeping its plans under wraps, it wouldn’t be unlikely for Nintendo to announce new Switch hardware sometime next year. Whether or not the next iteration of the Switch will include any of the rumored features, it is exciting to see what Nintendo has in store, especially now that its competitors have already transitioned to the next-generation of console gaming.
