Overwatch Echo Trick Makes Unlocking Other Characters’ Achievements Easier

Though Overwatch won’t be getting any new heroes until the game’s sequel comes out, Blizzard really went all out with Echo. Though Blizzard’s confirmation that Echo was Overwatch’s last hero initially caused a bit of a stir in the game’s community, the hero herself was a welcome addition to the Overwatch roster.

Even after several months of release, players are still discovering new and interesting tricks they can pull off with Echo. One Overwatch player on Reddit has even discovered that they can earn in-game achievements for other heroes by using Echo’s ultimate ability.

Echo is quite the unique character in Overwatch’s large roster of heroes. In a lot of ways, she is almost an amalgamation of different aspects of certain heroes and their unique abilities. Thanks to Echo’s Duplicate ultimate ability she can literally be any enemy hero for a brief period of time. During that period of time, Echo gains access to every single ability that a given enemy hero has access to, meaning players can pull off plenty of interesting tricks with Echo’s massive arsenal.

It turns out, players can even earn in-game achievements for other heroes using Echo’s Duplicate ability. Thanks to a user on Reddit going by the name “fielus,” this somewhat obscure detail about Echo’s abilities have come to light. In fielus’ post, they earn Junkrat’s “Roadkill” achievement using Echo by killing four enemies with Junkrat’s ultimate ability. It’s an impressive play that really shows off some of the insane strategies that Echo players can pull off given the right circumstances.

It’s also somewhat interesting from a development standpoint, as well. Technically, it means that when Echo uses her ultimate ability the game thinks of the playable character as whoever Echo is duplicating, not Echo herself. It’s just another reason why Echo is perhaps one of the most interesting additions to Overwatch’s roster. Of course, those players who don’t like Echo might just see this as yet another reason why she’s not all that impressive of a character.

Regardless, Echo’s significance to Overwatch as a whole can’t be understated. After all, she was the character that essentially ushered in Overwatch 2. Though fans still have no solid idea of when the game is launching, some are speculating that Overwatch 2’s release window is being teased by the Overwatch League’s Season 4 start date. For now, fans will just have to wait and see what Blizzard has in store for its lineup of Overwatch heroes.

Overwatch is available now for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
