PUBG Update Allows Vehicle Drivers to Use Weapons | Game Rant

Given PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been available for almost three years now, it’s surprising to consider the battle royale may be lacking certain gameplay features. The gameplay of PUBG has been well-established by now, and many players are comfortable with the game as it stands. However, PUBG Corp. has taken the opportunity to add a much-requested feature that doesn’t change PUBG too dramatically.

Patch 9.2 recently arrived on consoles after being pushed live last week for PC. The patch makes major changes to how sidearm weapons handle, making them all-around better weapons that players may actually want to pick up and use more often – if at all. One of the biggest reasons to care about sidearms is that PUBG now allows them to be used by vehicle drivers. PUBG players will be able to both drive and fire their sidearm at the same time.

According to the PUBG patch notes, the ability to fire a sidearm while driving will work with “most vehicles,” though there are some limitations. As far as vehicles go, all vehicles will work except for boats and the BRDM amphibious light-armored vehicle. It seems likely the aiming tech that PUBG uses for firing while driving may not work in water. Perhaps this will be fixed in the future, but as far as other limitations go, PUBG describes how aiming angles will be restricted depending on the vehicle.

PUBG Corp. also lists the assorted sidearms that will work while driving. These include the Deagle, P18C, P1911, P92, R1895, R45, Skorpion, Flare Gun, and the Sawed-off. However, take note that the Sawed-off doesn’t work on any vehicle other than Bike-type vehicles. It’s likely another technical limitation regarding the Sawed-off that may get fixed in the future.

The developer says it’s excited to see what “new kinds of gameplay” emerge from the addition of firing when driving. Things likely won’t change dramatically, but it’s easy to see some new strategies go into effect. A biker with a Sawed-off chasing down enemies is a lot more threatening than a biker pre-patch.

Even three years after launch, PUBG Corp. continues to iterate on PUBG‘s gameplay bit by bit. It’s no secret why the battle royale remains one of the most popular games in the world. Adding the ability to fire sidearms while driving may not be a major feature, but it keeps the gameplay fresh and adds new elements that even veterans should be excited to experiment with.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, Xbox One, as well as Android and iOS devices.
