A popular glitch in Spider-Man: Miles Morales might find its way into Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2, if a tweet shared by Spider-Verse 2 co-producer Phil Lord is any indication. This means viewers may see inanimate objects gain web-swinging powers similar to Spider-Man: Miles Morales for the first time on-screen.
Miles Morales is one of the flagship launch titles for the PlayStation 5, and it features an impressive array of graphical enhancements when played on PS5, such as the option to choose either native 4K or 60 FPS output. However, these flourishes are occasionally hindered by a bug that causes Miles Morales to turn into random objects as he swings his way through New York. Streamers have found themselves fighting crime as bricks, crates, sheets of ice, and more. Given its absurdity, fans have come to appreciate the bug rather than hoping for its removal.
Lord, one of the key figures behind the first Spider-Verse film, retweeted a gameplay clip of Miles turning into a patio heater. In the tweet, he said Spider-Verse 2 should find a way to include the glitch in some form. Whether this was referring to the patio heater in particular or the entire range of objects Miles can transform into is unclear. Given the film will release in early 2022, it may take some time until fans find out.
Lord’s willingness to reference this bug is a promising sign for Into the Spider-Verse 2, showing the production team’s willingness to lean into the stranger aspects of Spider-Man’s history. Although many fans had hoped that Spider-Man: Miles Morales would tease future games featuring the entire Spider-Verse cast, nothing like this appears in the game. The next best thing for fans may be having the Miles Morales game referenced in Spider-Verse 2, whether through the glitch or through something more substantial.
There are plenty of details from Spider-Man: Miles Morales that could be fit for inclusion in future Spider-Verse films. The game is filled with small details that flesh out Miles’ relationship with the Marvel Comics world around him, and it would be great to see those details explored in more detail. As future games in the series will likely feature Peter Parker as the protagonist, film representation would be a stellar way to keep a focus on this universe’s Miles Morales.
As good as it is to see players having fun with the glitch, not every bug in the game is so innocuous. Another glitch results in Miles stripping down to his civilian clothes, and this is a game-breaking bug that completely blocks all further progress. As many new PS5 owners will play this as their first next-gen titles, it’s important to make a good first impression, and hopefully Insomniac Games can patch the game’s issues quickly. Some players might not mind if the team decided to let Miles still turn into a patio heater after future patches, though.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales is now available for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
