The Witcher 3: 10 Side Quests Players Completely Overlook

The world of The Witcher 3 is undeniably large, with so many interesting characters to meet, hidden places to discover, and sidequests to unlock. Playing just the main quests is very rewarding, but to get the full experience of the game, players are encouraged to tackle some side quests and meet new characters as well.

There are so many easy-to-find side quests that players can find along Geralt’s journey, however, some of the best ones are hidden deep within the fantasy world. When playing through The Witcher 3 for the first time or the 20th time, these are the optional quests to look for.

10 Black Pearl

This side quest takes Geralt across the map, from Novigrad to Skellige and back. A man named Nidas can be found in the Golden Sturgeon where he will ask Geralt to help him complete his lifelong desire to obtain a black pearl to give to his wife. The mysterious pearl can be found in shells off the coast of Skellige. The quest isn’t too difficult to complete, but it does involve a bit of travel. Any quest where the fate of an NPC rests on Geralt’s shoulders is always one that makes the player either feel really good in the end, or really guilty, and that’s what makes the game so great!

9 Cabaret

Anyone playing The Witcher 3 has to take every chance they can get to hang out with Dandelion, the hilarious yet ignorant bard who has adventured alongside Geralt for many years. The Cabaret side quest is not one to miss, with adorably funny banter scenes including one involving a dramatic pretend sword fight. The quest will take players all across the city to gather money, flyers, and a choreographer that are crucial to open Dandelion’s new cabaret. Decoration decisions will lie in Geralt’s hands, so the end result of the cabaret is up to the player.

8 A Dog’s Life

Any quest involving saving a dog is obviously a must-do. Geralt can come across a lost dog in Drudge in Velen. The poor dog is being attacked by wolves and can be killed if Geralt doesn’t save it fast enough. After the player hopefully saves the dog’s life, Geralt will notice a key sewn into the dog’s collar.

The rest of the quest involves chasing after the dog to find the lock to the key, fighting some bandits, and gaining good experience points.

7 Shock Therapy

Located in Skellige, Geralt will encounter a druid who asks him to help his fellow druid who has suddenly gone mute and needs help being cured. The quest involves no fighting, spells, or anything else that typical quests have, it simply requires Geralt to be as incredible obnoxious and pestering as physically possible. This means banging pots and pans, putting out fires, and upsetting hornets nests. Lots of middle fingers will be given. It’s an amazing quest.

6 Of Swords and Dumplings

This quest is definitely one worth pursuing, as the rewards of the quest are so good. Geralt will need to come across Éibhear Hattori in his home and hear out his tragic story of how his swordsmith business was completely shut down by his immoral competition. The next steps include using Geralt’s many powers for negotiating with the King of Beggar’s men to get a good deal for Hattori (hint: never take the deal!), fighting off Cleaver’s men, hiring a bodyguard for the nervous swordsmith, and stealing supplies. It’s a long quest, but the outcome is access to the best swordsmith in the city and a free, powerful sword.

5 Fists of Fury

It’s a no brainer that Geralt is one of the strongest fighters in the land, with his incredible combat abilities and survival skills. These skills can easily be translated over to fight fighting, giving him a great advantage in the fighting rings that can be found throughout the game.

In Velen, after defeating all of the reigning champions, Geralt will gain the title “That Bloody Outsider Who Defeated Our Best Lads.” In the Skellige fist fighting ring, he will gain the title of Champion of Champions. The fights are also a good way to make some extra coin since Geralt can make bets on himself or throw fights for money.

4 Witcher Wannabe

In Velen, Geralt will hear rumors of a witcher who took a local contract after causing some trouble in Lindenvale. Once he has spoken to the alderman, Geralt will find out that a man claiming to be a witcher had been messing around in the town, getting on the bad side of the locals. The man had taken a contract to kill off a nearby ghoul and hadn’t yet returned. After finding the ghoul and defeating it, Geralt stands face to face with the fraud and has one of four decisions to make. It is a side quest that really plays into the “your choices will affect the characters in the game” aspect of The Witcher.

3 Farting Trolls

There’s really nothing more to this quest than what the name of it suggests: farting trolls. In Skellige, between Arinbjorn and Kaer Muire, Geralt will stumble upon a hidden cave entrance that has the obvious sound of farting coming from within it. If he chooses to proceed into the cave, Geralt will find 3 rock trolls who are all chatting and farting together. Once they spot the witcher, they will all attack, so it’s best to be prepared for a fight. The only way to explore the caves the trolls are in is to defeat them.

2 Out on Your Arse!

This side quest can be achieved once the Contract: Deadly Delights is completed. A crying woman outside of Crippled Kate’s will tell the witcher that she and others were kicked out of her brothel by a group of Skellige warriors who wanted the entire venue to celebrate their battle.

Asking the men to exit the brothel leaves Geralt with 5 choices: using Axii, threatening them, challenging a single warrior to a fight, revealing how strong he is (this can be done after finishing The Lord of Undvik), or leaving and failing the mission.

1 Greenhouse Effect

One of the few side quests in Kaer Morhen, this mission can be started by traveling to the southeast corner of the area and finding the site that is the source of the strange weather occurrences. A very old heat-generating spell is causing the issues, so Geralt will need to find the mage’s notes and fix the problem before it gets worse. Once the quest is completed, the area produces a heaping amount of rare herbs that are great for potion-making.
