Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s Great Plateau Recreated for VRChat

It goes without saying that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild made a lasting impact on the games industry in 2017 with its take on open-world games. With the high sales of the recently-released Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, gamers have made it clear they can’t get enough of the Breath of the Wild universe.

Since its initial release in February 2017, VRChat has allowed gamers to experience and create fully virtual worlds with limitless opportunities for customization. One VRChat world creator has taken it upon themselves to recreate an enormous area from Breath of the Wild in VRChat.

Gamers can finally experience Breath of the Wild‘s Great Plateau in first-person VR thanks to a new VRChat world created by user Colonel McKernal. The user uploaded a video on November 24, showcasing the first-person view of the Great Plateau in all of its glory. The world includes anything a fan of Breath of the Wild would expect, like lush green grass, towering waterfalls, dilapidated temples and structures, and most notably, the series’ dangerous Guardians.

Published on November 27, the VRChat world has already amassed over 7.5 thousand visits as of this writing, allowing for up to four players to experience the massive world together. The large region is secluded from other parts of Hyrule, and includes iconic Breath of the Wild areas such as the Forest of Spirits, the Temple of Time, Mount Hylia, and more. Players are even able to interact with the world just as they would in Breath of the Wild. The trailer showcases a player, using a Link avatar, climbing structures, wielding a sword, and activating Sheikah Towers.

Breath of the Wild was renowned for its expansive innovation in the open-world genre, receiving Game of the Year at The Game Awards in 2017. Lauded as the biggest and most eye-catching Legend of Zelda game yet, Breath of the Wild received recognition for toppling the map size of other huge open-world games such as The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. Breath of the Wild now serves as a comparison to other upcoming open-world games, like Cyberpunk 2077, so it’s no wonder that gamers are eager to experience the enchanting world in first-person VR.

VRChat has shown no signs of letting up in terms of what players are able to create in the limitless game. With hopes that the release of the sequel to Breath of the Wild is not far off, the impressive recreation of the game’s Great Plateau makes it clear that even three years later, the hype for Breath of the Wild is still alive and well.

VRChat is available now on Oculus, PC, and Viveport.
