Black Friday may be over, but Black Friday weekend and Cyber Monday are still opportunities for video game players to score a great deal. There are sales on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo platforms, as well as major sales at retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart. Sometimes the best gift isn’t a specific game, but rather the opportunity to decide on something later on. Amazon and Best Buy are offering just that, selling both Nintendo eShop and Xbox gift cards at a discounted price.
On both Amazon and Best Buy, gift cards for both the Nintendo and Xbox have been discounted 10 percent. As such, gift cards for $100 can be purchased for $90 and so on. Nintendo has gift card increments at $99, $70, $50, $45, $35, $20, $10, and $5. Xbox has gift card increments at $100, $50, $30, $25, $20, $15, and $10. Every single card can be purchased for $10 off, and then redeemed in their respective storefronts for their full value.
One important detail is it seems Amazon has already sold out of its Nintendo eShop gift cards. The official Nintendo listing for gift cards still has an “Add to Cart” button, but when clicked it says to select a card denomination. There are no longer any gift cards to choose from on the listing, as of this writing. It’s possible that Amazon may restock these cards, but it seems likely that Amazon sold out of the stock it had reserved for this sales event.
Another detail to consider is that these gift cards can be used in the official Microsoft store. That means that they can be used to purchase Microsoft hardware in addition to games, including the Xbox Series X. New consoles are sold out, but the gift card money can be used should they restock down the line.
Gift cards like this make for excellent purchases either as gifts or for fans buying for themselves. Gift card currency is just currency in the end, and since most video game players are likely planning to make a game purchase in the relatively near future, this is basically front-loading a 10 percent discount on that game purchase.
There are a lot of ongoing deals for Black Friday and Cyber Monday available this weekend, but few if any will have the long-term value of 10 percent off what amounts to cash that will be spent on video games anyway. It’s just a shame there isn’t a PlayStation Store gift card discount on Amazon and Best Buy, too.
