Just in case there’s still folks who still haven’t seen Avengers: Endgame, there’ll be major spoilers ahead. But really, the headline should have been enough of a clue.
While promoting the digital release of Dreamland, Kerry Condon, the actress behind the voice of F.R.I.D.A.Y., talked about recording her lines for when Tony Stark sacrificed himself in order to defeat Thanos at the climax of Avengers: Endgame. And it seems like it was as much of a shock to her as it was to cinema audiences.
Talking about her work in the MCU, the Irish actress was worried that she was suddenly out of a job saying “At the time I was like, ‘But there’s hope, right? He’s not totally dead,’ and they kinda looked at me like (pulls a face) I go, ‘Oh my god!’ I knew my gravy train had just come to a halt! And so they said, ‘Say it like it’s the saddest thing you’ve ever said.’ And I was like, ‘Well, that won’t be f***ing hard! It’s all over!'”
Condon also gave some insight into what it’s like to be the voice of F.R.I.D.A.Y. saying “A lot of the time I was doing it to a blank screen because either they didn’t want to show me what it was or it wasn’t fully done. So you really have to use your imagination and go, ‘Okay, so how high are the stakes? Is this the last battle of the movie or is it the first battle?’ You know, so you can kind of know how much to give.”
And Condon also spoke about how she came to the job despite never voice acting before and the surprise when she landed the role saying “the casting lady had called me in on a lot of jobs… but I didn’t get them so I kinda suspect she was throwing me a bone a little bit. I didn’t think it would lead to so many movies either. I thought it was just a one-off job.”
