As the seasons begin to change, Pokemon GO will be changing as well. With the introduction of the GO Beyond update, there will be a new level cap, Battle League rankings, and seasons. The first season, Season of Celebration, begins tomorrow and there is a lot for players to look forward to.
Though Niantic advertised the season as starting “now” in a news post today, the Season of Celebration officially kicks off in Pokemon GO on December 1 at 8:00 a.m. local time, and will run until March 1, 2021. During this time, players will experience several in-game events that celebrate different regions, such as Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and more. Different Pokemon will appear in the wild more often, and what is available in the wild and from eggs will depend on the hemisphere where players are located.
Players who want to add some Mega-Evolved Pokemon to their collection will have a chance at Mega Charizard X, Mega Gengar, and Mega Abomasnow in Mega Raids through December. More will appear in Mega Raids next year, and the power levels of these Mega-Evolved Pokemon will change as the Season of Celebration continues, with Mega Charizard X being the most powerful during the first half of December.
During the Season of Celebration, players can also expect a variety of events. The final Community Day of the year will be held on Saturday, December 12, with Pokemon featured in any Community Day prior appearing more frequently in the wild and in raids. The GO Battle League Season 6 will see Pokemon GO rankings change in a big way. The game will expand ranks from 10 to 24, and the top four will have new names and corresponding badges. Season 6 will start on November 30 at 1:00 p.m. PT.
The Kalos Celebration event begins December 2 and will run until December 8, and will feature Pokemon from the Kalos region in the wild and in eggs. They will also be making an appearance in raids. An exclusive Field Research and Time Research will be part of the event, and Niantic promises even more winter and holiday-themed events going forward.
The GO Beyond update includes many new features, but seasons will be one of the biggest. Up until now, it has been hard to pin down what Pokemon will be available in-game, but with seasons things are a lot easier. Another important aspect of the update is the Level-Up redesign in Pokemon GO. Since 2016, the level cap was set at 40, but now a new slate of tasks will open up once players reach this goal. By completing these tasks they can work their way up to a new cap of 50. Any trainer who reaches level 40 before December 31, 2020 will earn the title of “Legacy 40 Trainer.”
Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
