Twitch streamer Greekgodx has been banned from Twitch. Originally starting out on Twitch as a stream-sniper of fellow Twitch streamer loltyler1, Greekgodx garnered over 1.36 million followers on the streaming platform since he first joined in 2010.
While Greek has recently been in the limelight for his weight-loss journey, it seems that Twitch’s recent slew of bans may have caught up to the popular streamer. Seemingly out of nowhere on November 30, Greekgodx received an indefinite ban from the streaming platform.
The streamer’s ban caught the attention of many when StreamerBans, a Twitter bot account made to notify followers of recent bans on the platform, tweeted about Greek’s ban. As of this writing, many are unsure as to why exactly Greekgodx was banned, as it seems he hadn’t done anything recently to breach Twitch’s terms of service. This has led many of the streamer’s fans to begin speculating as to why exactly he was banned from Twitch, especially since neither the streaming platform nor Greek himself has spoken out on the ban.
One popular theory seems to be that Greekgodx is yet another victim of Twitch’s many recent DMCA bans. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act is a set of laws that modern streaming platforms such as Twitch must follow, made to protect against the dissemination of intellectual property through digital means without a copyright holder’s permission.
On Twitch, this most often comes in the form of copyrighted music that streamers unknowingly play during their live broadcasts, however, it can come in the form of videos, TV shows, and movies as well. It is thought that Greek could have unknowingly played some sort of copyrighted media during one of his streams, resulting in a DMCA ban.
Another theory for Greekgodx’s recent ban is that it may have occurred due to him watching videos of street fights live on stream. Aside from streaming himself playing a variety of video games, Greek has also been known for streaming himself reacting to videos for hours upon end. Watching videos of street fights live on stream may be a breach of Twitch’s community guidelines, which protect against extreme gore, violence, and other obscene conduct.
Unfortunately, this is not the streamer’s first run-in with the Twitch ban hammer, as he received a 14 day ban in September of 2019 for a controversial rant on gender regarding the music streaming platform Soundcloud. As Greekgodx seems to face the same fate as many other Twitch streamers recently, it will be interesting to see how details of his ban come to fruition.
