Football Manager 21: The 10 Best Wonderkids In The Game (& How Much They’re Worth)

Along with the new features and updated interface, discovering new wonderkids is at the forefront of most Football Manager player’s interest when buying the latest iteration of the game. Purchasing young talented players, nurturing their abilities, and watching as they become one of the world’s best players can be Football Manager‘s most rewarding experience, as well as being key to ensuring long-term success as a manager. This is far easier said than done though, and finding the right player can require tons of extensive scouting.

Well-known young players like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mason Greenwood, and Kylian Mbappé won’t feature on this list as not only will they cost eye-watering amounts, but convincing them to join your club will be a near-impossible task. Consequently, the players on this list are all available at low prices, making them ideal investments.

10 Max Normann Williamsen

Max Normann Williamsen has the potential to be a fantastic old-school center back. His lackluster passing, technique, and vision will make him useless to teams that like to play out of the back, but his tackling, aggression, and bravery make him an excellent long-term option for teams that play a low block and need a no-nonsense center back.

Max is valued at £27,000 ($36,073) and will cost around £2,000,000 ($2,672,080).

9 Gavi

A Spanish player who plays for Barcelona and has a name just one letter away from Xavi is always likely to draw attention. Gavi’s 17 flair stat jumps out immediately, as do his impressive supplementary stats that make him an exciting prospect at the number 10 position. His lack of work rate, aggression, and strength may cause concerns about Gavi’s place in the modern game, but at just 15 years of age, managers have more than enough time to improve the Spaniard’s weaknesses.

As a Barcelona player, acquiring Gavi may seem like a hopeless pursuit. However, Gavi has a release clause of just £300,000, ($400,903) making him an exciting long-term option if he can be convinced to join.

8 Riccardo Calafiori

Roma’s Riccardo Calafiroi has all the makings of a fantastic modern full-back who is equally competent going forward as he is defending. Riccardo doesn’t have any stats that immediately jump off the screen, but he has minimal weaknesses meaning managers can mold him into almost any playstyle that they want.

Riccardo Calafiori is one of the more pricey players on this list, valued at £140,000 ($187,036) and costing around £7,500,000 ($10,020,300).

7 Samson Tijani

As exemplified by his Player Traits, Nigerian defensive midfielder Samson Tijani isn’t afraid to get forward and will rack up a few goals and assists. If managed correctly, Tijani could become a superb Regista in a high-pressing, attacking team.

Tijani is valued at £600,000 ($801,789) and will cost around £7,000,000 ($9,354,205).

6 Lazaro

South America is always an excellent place to scout for young players in Football Manager games, and FM 21 is no different. Despite their growing importance in the modern game, False Nine’s are hard to come by. This makes Lazaro an exciting young player for managers who play with a False Nine or Deep Lying Forward, as Lazaro has the potential to be the next Firmino.

The Brazilian is valued at £34,000 ($45,423) and will cost around £8,500,000 ($11,355,787)

5 Thiago Almada

Thiago Almada has numerous attributes that will jump out immediately to Football Manager veterans. His 16 flair stat, 15 technique & passing, 14 dribbling, and perfectionist Personality make the Argentinian a viable option for plenty of different tactical approaches, especially when considering his positional versatility.

Thiago Almada has a value of £2,200,000 ($2,938,617) and Argentinian side Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield will ask for around £6,000,000 ($8,014,410).

4 Kristoffer Klaesson

Goalkeeping is a thankless task and the position is often overlooked by FM players. Securing a high-potential goalkeeper is vital to a team’s long-term success and Kristoffer Klaesson is a great option. The Norwegian doesn’t just have the potential to secure a team’s GK spot for over a decade, but his 17 determination and 12 leaderships stats at just 19 years of age means Klaesson could become an ideal captain option in the future.

Kristoffer Klaesson is valued at £375,000 ($501,139) and will cost around £7,500,000 ($10,022,782).

3 Andrea Papetti

Italy is known for producing some of the best defensive players in the world, and Andrea Papetti looks to be their next world-class player. Andrea’s heading, aggression, and marking stats are all excellent for an 18-year-old, plus he appears to be comfortable on the ball which makes him an ideal option for teams that play out from the back.

Andrea Papetti is valued at £1,600,000 ($2,139,224) and Brescia will only ask for around £3,000,000 ($4,011,045).

2 Marcus Edwards

Marcus Edwards’ stats speak for themselves. The Englishman is both the oldest and most expensive player on this list, but the tantalizing amount of green stats make Marcus one of Football Manager 21‘s most exciting young players. The winger’s work rate of just 9 and one-footedness is undoubtedly a cause for concern, but if players are willing to take a chance, Marcus Edwards could be the best punt they take in this year’s game.

Marcus Edwards has by far the highest value on this list at £10,250,00 ($13,707,325) but Portuguese side Vitória de Guimarães won’t ask for too much more than that, as he will likely cost around £17,000,000 ($22,721,945).

1 Matias Arezo

With a finishing stat of 14, heading of 16, and determination at a maxed out 20, Martias Arezo is one the most impressive 17-year-olds in Football Manager‘s recent history. The Uruguayan is worth any manager considering as he’s the sort of player a team can build their squad and tactics around if he reaches his potential.

Matias Arezo tops this list not only for his eye-watering stats but because he is valued at just £1,000,000 ($1,337,135) and River Plate de Montevideo will likely only ask for around £2,000,000 ($2,674,270).
