New Black Panther Intro is a Birthday Gift to Chadwick Boseman

This past weekend would have been Chadwick Boseman’s 44th birthday, yet the actor’s life was cut short after losing his battle with colon cancer three months ago. Since then, countless displays of love and admiration for the Black Panther star have continuously surfaced in all kinds of media and art forms.

As time passes and Marvel Studios begins to figure out how they’ll deal with Boseman’s death in Black Panther 2, this November 29 they still made sure to include a permanent tribute for the star that almost anyone can go see.

While finishing Spider-Man: Miles Morales may land fans easter eggs and direct messages honoring Boseman in the ending credits, Marvel Studios decided to place theirs somewhere it’d be easier to find, right at the beginning of Black Panther in the middle of the MCU’s now iconic comic intro sequence when watched on Disney+.

The clip shows several stills and videos of Boseman in his Black Panther role over the years, not only in Black Panther but also in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers:Infinity War and Endgame; as well as quotes from the very wise T’Challa in the films and even some on-set footage of the actor while working after his colon cancer diagnosis, which he mostly kept a secret.

Captioned simply with “Long Live the King”, it kind of is the perfect touch to add to an almost perfect film like Black Panther. Though Disney+ is packed with 3,000 minutes or roughly 50 hours of MCU movies, Black Panther is on a league of its own for its many nods to African culture in a film that generated over $1b in box office revenue, for having one of the best Marvel villains and for how Ryan Coogler adapted the superhero’s story to address racial issues.

Black Panther is a special film for many reasons. It’s the only MCU movie to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars and arguably the best superhero film for those that normally wouldn’t be inclined to watch them, Marvel Studios just made it a little bit more special.
