Pokemon GO‘s GO Beyond update makes a number of changes to Niantic’s extremely-popular AR title. One of the most notable changes featured in this update is a level cap increase, and players can now begin working to attain Level 50. Pokemon GO fans that hit the previous max level, Level 40, can also take a moment to celebrate their achievements with the newly-added Legacy 40 Challenge Timed Research, and this guide is here to detail all of its tasks and rewards.
Prior to jumping into those tasks and rewards, though, it is worth mentioning that only those PoGO players that reach Level 40 before Thursday, December 31 at midnight local time will be able to participate in the Legacy 40 Challenge. Indeed, this Timed Research is a temporary affair, and it will simply become unavailable at that time. As such, players that have not yet reached Level 40 but are interested in some of the Legacy 40 Challenge rewards should start grinding now.
- Power up Pokemon 10 times (1,000 Stardust)
- Catch 15 Pokemon (3 Star Pieces)
- Make 5 Nice Throws (1,000 XP)
Rewards: 1,000 Stardust, 1,000 XP, Rufflet Encounter
- Catch 15 different species of Pokemon (1,000 Stardust)
- Transfer 10 Pokemon (1 Unova Stone)
- Use 15 Pinap Berries while catching Pokemon (1,000 XP)
Rewards: 1,000 Stardust, 1,000 XP, 3 Premium Raid Passes
- Make 3 Great Curveball Throws (1,000 Stardust)
- Win 3 Raids (1 Sinnoh Stone)
- Give your buddy 10 treats (1,000 XP)
Rewards: 1,000 Stardust, 1,000 XP, 3 Super Incubators
- Claim Reward (5,000 Stardust)
- Claim Reward (Deino Encounter)
- Claim Reward (1,000 XP)
Rewards: 5,000 Stardust, Archen Encounter, Gyarados Cap
As players that peruse the list above will see, there are a variety of rewards to earn across all steps of PoGO‘s Legacy 40 Challenge Timed Research. However, the best of the bunch do not appear until Step 4, with the Gyarados Cap serving as perhaps the most-desirable prize. That is because this item is exclusive to the Legacy 40 Challenge, and there is no telling when, if ever, it might be available again.
Fortunately, the month-long duration of this new Pokemon GO Timed Research means that there should be plenty of time for most players to complete all of the tasks and earn their special hat. This is especially true due to the fairly straightforward nature of all of the Legacy 40 Challenge tasks, and it is only the Raid-focused task in Step 3 that seems capable of giving fans any trouble. However, the PoGO Premium Raid Passes awarded in Step 2 should make winning three Raids trivial and get players to the final step with relative ease.
Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
