Pokemon GO Mega Abomasnow Raid Counter Guide | Game Rant

December is here, which means it is time for a fresh rotation of Battle Raid bosses in Pokemon GO. The mobile AR game’s GO Beyond update is here and the Season of Celebration has officially kicked off. One of the first changes to arrive, alongside the increased level cap and new badges, is the appearance of a brand new Mega Evolution Battle Raid boss this afternoon. Get ready for Mega Abomasnow.

Mega Raids are still new and exciting and, as Niantic works to improve the Mega Evolution system, players will want to score as many Mega resources from Battle Raids as possible. In December 2020, that’s going to mean adding Mega Abomasnow raids to the rotation and teaming up with Pokemon GO Friends to take down the icy new boss. As always, that task is going to be a lot easier if players take some time to select and power up a strategic roster full of top tier counters before cashing in their Raid Passes.

Like all Mega Raids, Abomasnow is going to be a little tougher to take down than usual. Top tier players with the perfect weather boosts can likely duo this boss, but the average trainer is going to want to head into the fight with at least 3-5 trainers and some very strong counters. Luckily, Abomasnow’s Ice- and Grass-type pairing make it incredibly vulnerable to Fire-type attacks, so building a strong battle roster isn’t going to be very complicated at all.

Before starting a Mega Abomasnow Battle Raid, trainers should review their list of top tier Fire-types and use some TMs to get the ideal move sets in place. It also wouldn’t hurt to burn through some Candy at this point to power these Pokemon up to a respectable CP. Fire-types are often a popular counter choice for Legendary Raids, so it’s possible that some experienced raiders will already have close to a complete counter roster ready to go without even spending any additional resources before the fight…

Charizard (Mega Y) – Fire Spin/Blast Burn

Houndoom (Mega) – Fire Fang/Flamethrower

Reshiram – Fire Fang/Overheat

Charizard (Mega X) – Fire Spin/Blast Burn

Heatran – Fire Spin/Flamethrower

Chandelure – Fire Spin/Overheat

Darmanitan – Fire Fang/Overheat

Entei – Fire Fang/Overheat

Moltres – Fire Spin/Overheat

Flareon – Fire Spin/Overheat

Blaziken – Fire Spin/Blast Burn

Infernape – Fire Spin/Blast Burn

As always, keep in mind that this list of counters represents the strongest possible options, but there are plenty of other Pokemon who could still get the job done. Trainers should search their Pokemon collection by using the keyword “Fire” and go with a roster that seems the strongest based on those options.

As trainers continue working through these amazing events and enjoying the GO Beyond update, they may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters and completing their Pokedex is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
