Amazon Customer Gets Water Bottles Instead of Xbox Series X

The launch of the Xbox Series X has greatly affected the gaming industry, and world commerce, in big ways. With a high volume of pre-orders and with online and physical retailers going in and out of stock, the Xbox Series X is easily one of the most sought after pieces of gaming hardware currently on the market. Thus, it was understandable why a certain Amazon UK customer was frustrated when they found out that they had not received their Series X, but something else entirely.

Amazingly, some consumers who paid for a Series X have started to receive items that are just about the complete opposite of a next-gen gaming console. One of these unfortunate recipients was a Reddit user by the name of WonkieDonk who, in lieu of an Xbox Series X, received a 12-pack of water bottles. This is in line with the current trend of Amazon mixing up PS5 orders, or drivers stealing them in some cases.

Since the console’s launch, there have been a number of growing pains surrounding the Xbox Series X, especially in the UK. Back in November, following the UK’s nationwide lockdown, the Xbox Series X still managed to make its way into the hands of consumers who had pre-ordered the console, but the coronavirus pandemic definitely slowed down the process.

Similar to WonkieDonk, a woman who ordered a PS5 instead received an air fryer for no apparent reason. Understandably, WonkieDonk is rather frustrated, and for good reason. Paying £449.99 only to receive something that is a mere fraction of the price, and is nowhere near what was ordered, is understandably aggravating.

It’s interesting that problems like this have started to arise since the launch of the Xbox Series X. Perhaps it’s due to the high volume of orders likely brought on by COVID-19, but it feels like this kind of intense demand for the next console generation is an industry first. Hopefully, Amazon and Microsoft are working quickly to rectify these kinds of mistakes.

It will be exciting to see what’s in store for the next console generation moving forward. Ten days after the launch of the PS5, the CEO of PlayStation remarked that “absolutely everything [was] sold.” It’s safe to assume that that is also the case for the Xbox Series X/S. Hopefully, in the coming months, the demand for the console will wane slightly and it will be easier for consumers to buy the console without the risk of receiving a 12-pack of water bottles instead.

The Xbox Series X/S is available now.
