Amazon Working to Replace Missing PS5 Consoles | Game Rant

For some unlucky Amazon customers, the PlayStation 5’s launch was something of a disaster. When their PS5 pre-orders arrived, they instead found themselves with other random items instead, from foot massagers to Nerf guns and even cat food.

At the time, Amazon assured its customers that it would look into the issue. And now it is being reported that those customers are receiving emails informing them that their PS5 consoles will soon be on their way.

In an email sent to journalist Bex April May, who was among those to not get their PS5 from Amazon (she got an air fryer instead), Amazon confirms that more PS5 stock has been received and it is aiming to dispatch them to customers within 14 days, should the customer agree to reopen their order. Any UK Amazon customers who failed to get their PS5 best start checking their inboxes now, if they haven’t already.

While this is obviously good news, hopefully the scenario won’t repeat itself. At the time of writing, it’s still not entirely clear how this incident came about. Though it’s possible that these were simple mistakes, it’s also been theorized that those PS5 pre-orders were actually stolen, potentially to be sold on eBay at ridiculously high mark-ups.

There’s no denying that there is a serious scalper problem. Even before the console launched, a quick search revealed people offering their own pre-orders for double the standard price. One scalper group in the UK drew plenty of ire and outrage when it bragged about securing thousands of PS5 consoles.

That same group was also able to acquire more than 1,000 Xbox Series X consoles too, which it would’ve no doubt sold at inflated prices too, but Very, the retailer where it placed the orders, ended up canceling them.

Despite all the issues surrounding the PS5’s launch (the COVID-19 pandemic and stock not meeting demand certainly didn’t help), the console has still managed to be a huge financial success for Sony. In fact, it’s been confirmed to be Sony’s biggest launch console ever, selling twice as much as Microsoft’s rival console.

With Christmas around the corner, though, both Sony and Microsoft are no doubt aiming to have more stock available in time, so desperate customers won’t have to rely on scalpers. Only recently, Walmart Canada, for example, confirmed that it will have both consoles in stock from tomorrow, but they’ll only be available online.
