The mega popular battle royale game Fortnite is currently suffering from server issues. Epic Games has confirmed that the Fortnite servers are currently down, and it is actively investigating the situation. Thousands of Fortnite players have reported that they are unable to log in to the game’s servers, and at the time of this writing, there is no ETA on when the game’s servers will be restored.
While Epic Games has not revealed why Fortnite‘s servers are down, it’s possible it has to do with server overload. Fortnite Season 5 just kicked off earlier today, and it stands to reason that it may be drawing in not only diehard fans of the game, but lapsed players as well. Fortnite Season 5’s Star Wars-themed content and surprise God of War Kratos skin may also be convincing people to try the game out. However, we must stress that the server overload theory is just speculation at this time, and Epic Games has not offered an official explanation.
Fortnite servers have experienced some trouble in the past when a ton of gamers try to log in to the game at the same time. For example, the massive Fortnite Galactus event drew millions of people to the game, and some had difficulty getting logged in as a result. Past Fortnite events have suffered from similar issues, which is why Epic Games recommends players log into the game in advance whenever a big event is happening.
