Cyberpunk 2077 Teases Cybernight Event | Game Rant

It’s hard to believe that Cyberpunk 2077 is just a week away from releasing; especially because fans have been in this position previously, right before the game was delayed multiple times. Although it’s never been this close. In anticipation of its launch, CD Projekt Red is teasing something called “Cybernight,” There are no details on this event other than a mysterious transmission.

This all went down through the game’s official Twitter account, where it states it has a message for would-be players, followed by the hashtag #Cybernight. Below it is a brief voice recording, presumably from the protagonist of Cyberpunk 2077, that states there is a fresh job that needs to be done and details will soon follow. It claims it will be big, so anticipation is at an all-time high. What it all means is anyone’s guess but it certainly has the scent of an ARG to help promote the game. As the message states, details are forthcoming, so those interested in seeing where the tease leads will have to be patient.

Not everyone will have to rely on promotional material to see what the game has to offer before it releases. Content creators and other recipients of early copies are diving through Night City right now. This means the potential for leaks of the game’s story or other details has peaked. To avoid spoilers, the developer is asking gamers not to stream Cyberpunk 2077 before launch day. While this request won’t keep 100% of spoilers from making their way out into the world, video content posted online before release will be taken down to curb some of it.

Though the game suffered multiple delays, it appears anticipation for the title has waned very little. Sure, there may have been some frustrated gamers out there who felt burned by it being pushed back several times. Some took it way too far, to the point that the developer had to ask people to stop sending death threats after the last delay. Despite the varying degrees of resentment, CD Projekt Red has confirmed that pre-orders are higher than any Witcher game. Much of these numbers are attributed to digital pre-orders, in which the developer says it has seen a significant increase.

This comes as no surprise since there are a lot of benefits to going digital. The convenience of not having to wait on delivery of a physical copy and being able to download on release night is definitely one of the biggest, but there are also regular discounts on digital games. Online outlets are offering additional pre-order bonuses as well. For example, Steam is handing out a free short story written by Tomasz Marchewka, the game’s story lead, to those that pre-order through the service.

Cyberpunk 2077 releases December 10th for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
