Doom Eternal Switch File Size Revealed | Game Rant

The highly anticipated release of the Nintendo Switch port of Doom Eternal is less than a week away, and a number of Switch owners are looking forward to the game’s release. Though, one logistical problem that many users are curious about is how big the file size of the Switch port of Doom Eternal will be. Luckily, the developers over at Panic Button have provided an answer.

Back in September, a Doom Eternal developer said that a Switch port was very close to being done, and now fans won’t have to wait much longer. However, one thing that has remained consistent about Doom Eternal across platforms is that it is an impressive game from both a technical and visual perspective. Many fans of the game have been led to wonder how well the game will perform on a console like the Nintendo Switch, which Panic Button, the studio in charge of the Switch port, has begun to address.

During an interview with Nintendo Life, a representative revealed that the file size of Doom Eternal on the Nintendo Switch was approximately 17.5 GB. Given that a standard Nintendo Switch game is a little over 10 GB and given Doom Eternals technical capability, this file size makes sense. Although, the standard storage capacity of a Nintendo Switch is only 32 GB, so some users will definitely need to clear some of their storage space or invest in an alternate storage device.

While the file size of Doom (2016) was roughly five gigabytes more, this is still quite a large file size for the Switch, taking up more than half of the storage capacity. The massive increase in game file sizes has affected practically every gaming system currently on the market. With games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare clocking in at over 200 GB, it seems like the game file sizes for practically every triple-A game are only getting bigger, and the Nintendo Switch is no exception to this trend.

It will be interesting to see if Nintendo will do anything to remedy this in the future. Despite the console being out for several years now, the storage limit of the Nintendo Switch has remained largely the same. With storage sizes of similar consoles being in the hundreds, it makes one wonder why the Switch has such a small storage size. Hopefully, the rumored Nintendo Switch Pro will address this issue, if it turns out to be real.

In any case, it will be interesting to see how well Doom Eternal performs on the Switch. Back when the game first came out back in March, there were debates online arguing which version of Doom Eternal would be the best one to buy. With any luck, the Switch version should manage to keep up.

Doom Eternal is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One with a Nintendo Switch version being released on December 8th, 2020 and with Xbox Series X/S and PS5 versions currently in development.
