Pokemon GO: What is Tagging? | Game Rant

Pokemon GO is over four years old already, and with that age comes a great deal of Pokemon piling up in players’ boxes. While the game offers ways for players to increase their box space, until now it has been severely lacking in ways to sort that space. The newest update introduces a feature called tagging that aims to rectify this problem.

Before this update, if a player wanted to find a specific Pokemon in their box, they’d have to scroll through potentially hundreds of others depending on how big their box is. It could be sorted by name, CP, and other metrics, but that still wasn’t a great way of grouping up specific Pokemon. Now, Pokemon GO players finally have a way to keep their Pokemon all sorted out.

The tagging feature doesn’t help with catching new Pokemon or winning gym battles, as it’s really more of a quality of life update. The thing it will do most is save time in the long run, allowing for players to spend more time raiding and capturing and less time rummaging through their boxes.

Players can now create tags, each with a unique name and color. Pokemon can be assigned to these tags, allowing for similarly purposed Pokemon to be grouped together and easier to find. For example, players may want to make a tag for Pokemon they intend to put into gyms, and with one tap all of these gym-Pokemon can be pulled to the top of the box. Likewise, it could also be used as a method to group together Pokemon for raids or other activities.

In order to create a tag, players need to go to the Pokemon menu and select Tag in the top left corner. From here, players can create as many tags as they want, assigning them each a color as they see fit, and then start adding Pokemon to the tags. To add a Pokemon, players need to tap the button in the bottom left. What’s more, a Pokemon can have more than one tag, so if one serves more than just one purpose, they can show up in both of those searches.

This process may take a little while to get set up at first, as players will have a lot of Pokemon to sort through, but it will save even more time in the long run. This kind of simple change goes a long way for hardcore fans that have collected a ton of Pokemon over the years, and is already available as part of the recent Go Beyond update for Pokemon GO.

Pokemon GO is available now for Mobile.
