FIFA 21 has officially released on PS5 and Xbox Series X. The next console generation sees EA’s soccer (football) sim gain a variety of improvements, including faster loading and enhanced audio. However, one feature in particular is standing out to FIFA 21 players: the hair.
EA recently provided a full breakdown of FIFA 21′s next-gen features for PS5 and Xbox Series X. In a surprise move, the publisher is releasing the game’s next-gen version a full 24 hours before its initially planned release.
The sports game’s hair follicle physics have thoroughly impressed the folks over at Push Square. So much so that the website’s Deputy Editor posted a clip showcasing the title’s realistic hair movement. The six-second clip in question showcases Liverpool goalkeeper Allison Becker. After a scoring attempt appears to get deflected off of the right post, Becker celebrates with a fist pump. Players will see strands of Becker’s hair realistically fling forward during that motion, as it would in real life.
The game’s new hair rendering technology is what makes the new salon-quality hair on every footballer’s head actually possible. Utilizing EA’s exclusive Frostbite engine, the added hair physics are just one of the many new touches to FIFA 21. Both the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions promise to provide players with a more realistic experience. The visuals, the animation lighting, and even the sounds are all apparently more authentic than ever before. The next-gen version of FIFA 21 includes several different captured crowd chants from some of the sport’s biggest competitions in the world, such as the Premier League. Although, the game’s realism has also caused itself to become embroiled in a player likeness controversy.
Last month, soccer superstar Zlatan Ibrahimović slammed EA Sports, claiming that FIFA 21 is using his likeness without his permission. The AC Milan striker took to Twitter to express his frustrations, demanding an investigation. Despite these accusations, the reality of the situation is that Ibrahimović’s club signed an exclusive agreement with EA that allows the developers to use accurate face scans. The player’s agent has even come out publicly to say that their current lawsuit against EA is only about getting money.
Part of EA’s overall PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrade plans, the new hair physics truly show the next step forward in video game realism.FIFA 21 is arguably the most realistic soccer game ever, minus the fact that Dua Lipa is a playable character.
FIFA 21 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
