New Genshin Impact Dev Diary Details Co-Op and Map Changes, More

This month has already been rather active for Genshin Impact fans. Among other things, like the recently concluded Unreconciled Stars event, players have been treated to an unprecedented number of leaks and announcements alike.

Almost all of the more recent announcements and leaks have had something to do with Version 1.2 of Genshin Impact, which is supposed to be the game’s next major addition. Aside from all new characters, narrative content, and the like, the  just-released Developers Discussion confirms that Travelers can expect a plethora of quality of life (QoL) improvements as well.

Like most MMORPG (and free-to-play) games, Genshin Impact endures its fair share of criticism. Thankfully, miHoYo has been known to listen to fans, and as per this new Developers Discussion, has every intention of trying to optimize its hit titles’ user experience. While many players are speculate that Version 1.2 will introduce leaked characters like Ganyu, players can now at least be sure of several other things.

While the forum seemed to tackle a wide spectrum of completely different issues, it’s clear that these issues arose from fan concerns, rather than miHoYo’s financial status, which should reassure players. The changes are set to include trackable map pins, so players can actually navigate towards one of their custom pins using the game’s radar, custom friend nicknames, and even a private chat function.

Here’s a quick overview of QoL changes now expected with Version 1.2 per the Developers Discussion:

  • Private Chat: Travelers who have unlocked the friend system can chat with their friends without joining their world, via a special shortcut button; messages received while offline will await the user’s next login
  • Custom Friend Nicknames: Assign friends a custom nickname so they’re more easily found on the Friend List
  • Trackable Map Pins: Travelers will be able to navigate towards one custom map pin at a time
  • Re-challenge Domains: Travelers will be able to re-challenge a Domain without exiting and re-entering
  • Auto-loot: Rewards from Ley Line and Trounce Blossoms will be sent directly to player inventories instead of scattering across the floor
  • Dialogue Auto-Play: Players will finally be able to simply let the dialogue flow, without having to tap at the end of each line
  • Travel Log: The Archives will receive a Travel Log section, which will allow players to revisit text and audio from previously completed quests
  • Co-Op Mode Interruption: Players will be able to leave Co-Op mode without affecting any other Travelers who may be staying behind together
  • Ascension Rewards: Players will now receive one Acquaint Fate upon Ascending any character (this will apply retroactively)

Given that this list is only comprised of QoL and feature adjustments, players can probably expect Version 1.2 to be a big one, for lack of better words. On top of all this, Travelers should be encountering new characters, new quests, and an entirely new icy mountain range known as Dragonspine. This latter statement is particularly confirmed by the mysterious closing warning attached to miHoYo’s post: “[Travelers should] stay away from snowy mountains! They’re just not safe…”

Genshin Impact is available now on the App Store, Google Play, PC, and PS4, and is currently in development for Switch.
