Around 5 o’clock in the morning on December 4, Twitch streamer JayKirky was streaming some Resident Evil: Resistance gameplay, the multiplayer component attached to the Resident Evil 3 remake that released earlier this year. While playing the game, JayKirky heard a strange banging noise. JayKirky remarked, “It sounds like someone’s trying to break in,” and as it turns out, that’s exactly what was happening.
In the clip, JayKirky continues playing Resident Evil: Resistance for a few seconds as normal, but the banging sounds continue. JayKirky goes to see what’s happening, and while it happens off-screen, viewers can clearly hear glass smashing and people yelling. This goes on for a few minutes, but JayKirky eventually returns to his game, where he explained to his Twitch viewers exactly what happened.
As reported by Dexerto, after he left the Twitch stream, JayKirky apparently saw someone wearing a ski mask and armed with a machete smash his window. JayKirky attempted to run outside to escape, but was stopped by two other attackers. However, the home invaders realized that they were at the wrong house, and that JayKirky was not the person they were looking for. They reportedly held a gun to his head and instructed him not to call the police or say anything about what happened.
“I thought I was going to die,” JayKirky told his Twitch viewers who were watching while it was happening. JayKirky indicated that he lives in a sketchy neighborhood, but he was looking to go somewhere else in light of the incident. Luckily, JayKirky wasn’t physically harmed, though he was understandably shaken by being threatened and having a gun pointed at his head.
This isn’t the first time that something like this has happened to a Twitch streamer. In August 2019, Twitch streamer RollzReezy went live on the platform after he was reportedly beaten and robbed. And then earlier this year, FaZe clan members Devin and Kieran Agony were victims of a home invasion, with the assailants firing a shotgun but ultimately leaving the area before police arrived. Similarly to the JayKirky situation, no one was physically harmed in the FaZe Agony home invasion incident.
Thanks to the live nature of Twitch, it’s quite likely that unfortunate events like this will continue to be captured on streams. However, it’s more likely that Twitch streamers will have to contend with swatting incidents as opposed to home invasions from unknown assailants, as that’s something that their actual viewers sometimes instigate as a so-called “prank.”
