Creepy Demon’s Souls Sounds Are Just a Bug | Game Rant

Those strange sounds that have been scaring players in Demon’s Souls are actually just a bug, according to a new statement from Sony.

Players first noticed the creepy sounds in the Nexus, a location in Demon’s Souls where players can upgrade their gear, repair equipment, and sell items, though players have reported hearing them in several of the game’s locations. The sounds vary. Sometimes the noise is similar to that of a gong being hit, other times it sounds similar to a distant growl. Without an official explanation for where the sounds were coming from, fans began to speculate about what was really causing them. The fact that the noises were not present in the original Demon’s Souls for the PS3 only intensified the speculation.

But, thanks to a statement that Sony made to Kotaku, it is now clear that the creepy sounds are caused by a bug and are not a hint or an Easter egg. The company said that it is currently looking for a way to fix the audio glitches with a future patch.

Before the sounds were revealed to be a glitch, they sparked a number of fan theories about their origins. Several players thought the sounds were related to the changes made to World Tendency, a karma-like mechanic in Demon’s Souls that gives players consequences based on their actions. Others believed that the sounds could be coming from the other side of the mysterious locked door hidden in World 1-3, but the theory was disproven when a speed runner unlocked the door and revealed that all it was hiding was a suit of armor.

Perhaps the most tantalizing theory for the startling noises was that they hinted at original Demon’s Souls developer FromSoftware’s next game, Elden Ring. Many fans hypothesized that the loud clanging noises were the same noises that can be heard at the beginning of Elden Ring’s E3 2019 reveal trailer. While this theory was the most exciting, there was little chance of being true from the outset, as the Demon’s Souls remake was not developed by FromSoftware.

After the mysterious door was unlocked, the strange sounds were one of the last mysteries to be solved in the Demon’s Souls PS5 remake. There are tons of hidden items in Demon’s Souls, including weapons, armor, and Easter eggs. Players who want a challenge can still spend countless hours trying to find all the game’s hidden rings and weapons. It is also possible that Demon’s Souls is still hiding mysteries that fans have yet to uncover.

Demon’s Souls is available on the PS5.
