Overwatch Buffs Make Reinhardt Overpowered | Game Rant

For over four years now, Overwatch has remained a fairly balanced game, with characters rarely feeling overpowered due to Blizzard’s constant adjustments. However, the Overwatch developers may have gone too far with a recent buff of Reinhardt, as the character’s hammer is now being called “broken” by many fans.

The recent buff for Reinhardt came as part of an experimental update, and while Rein mains will likely hope that the hero’s new power level sticks, players of every other character are likely hoping for a nerf. While Reinhardt’s hammer damage was only raised by 10 points, making each swing take away 85 HP instead of the usual 75, the change is more drastic than it seems. Players quickly discovered that, under the right circumstances, Reinhardt can now drop most of the Overwatch roster in 2 hammer swings.

Rein’s new power was captured on video by a Twitter user named @jonoverwatc, where the player became one of many to call the current form of Reinhardt “broken.” By working with certain healers, Reinhardt’s swings can become strong enough to 2-shot heroes at 200 health — a huge portion of the game’s roster. Mercy, who saw a funny change in a previous Overwatch update, can provide a damage boost to Rein, with Zenyatta adding a Discord orb to his targets. With two skilled healers on his side, the new Reinhardt is essentially unstoppable.

This new Reinhardt would be scary enough as is if the buffs stopped at the hammer, however Reinhardt received a health boost as well. Adding another 50 HP to the shield wielder’s health bar, Reinhardt can now swing his upgraded hammer for a hit longer — making him even more dangerous in lengthy team fights. With the support boosts and the use of strategies like the ambush spot on Lijiang Tower, the German Knight will be striking fear in players for some time to come.

It is also worth noting that, while Rein can bring down any single target with ease, his hammer’s range and spread allow him to damage multiple heroes at once. With a Mercy giving him a damage boost and another hero providing Reinhardt with heals, the character can effectively wipe an entire team if used by a skilled player. Beyond that, his ultimate will charge faster due to the higher damage dealt, making Earthshatters more common than ever. If players want to deal damage in Overwatch, the use of a Priority Pass may no longer be necessary.

It will be interesting to see if Blizzard gives Reinhardt some love in the Winter Wonderland 2020 event to celebrate the buff, as a skin could put the icing on the cake for fans who main the hero. With his squire Brigitte getting into the holiday spirit, it seems fitting that a new design for Reinhardt is shared as well.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
