It’s usually a toss-up between the Batman: Arkham series and Spider-Man PS4 over which is the better superhero effort in recent times. Spider-Man PS4 benefitted from a more laid back image, stemming from the open-world gameplay and the “happy” attitude of the main character.
However, there are multiple problems with logic in this game. These haven’t aged all that well either, and those who take notice of these issues will agree they don’t add up. Most have to do with the storyline clashing with established logic, along with elements that shouldn’t be possible. Checking these out will change the way you see the game.
10 Peter Parker’s Fighting Abilities
It was shown that Spider-Man had a number of fighting styles that he could make use of. These ranged from stuff like Jiu-Jitsu to Capoeira, among others. How he got around to learning these abilities is a mystery, seeing as he had no background in combat arts.
Peter Parker could only beat the baddies because he had super strength, not due to any intrinsic fighting abilities. Are we to believe that being bit by a radioactive spider instantly gave Peter the knowledge of multiple fighting styles?
9 Vulnerable Villains Taking Clean Hits From Spider-Man
No matter which villain you’re inclined to prefer, the vast majority of them shouldn’t logically have been a match for Spider-Man. This is including their powers, as the villains didn’t have invulnerability on their side. With this in mind, there should be no way for them to withstand Spider-Man’s attacks.
After all, Spider-Man is someone who can move buses around like they’re nothing, meaning punches from him should almost guarantee instant death for a villain who doesn’t have superpowers. To this end, almost none of the antagonists should have survived fighting him.
8 Spider-Man Losing To Silver Sable
For most fans, Silver Sable is among the worst bosses in the game. A majority of players hated how she was shown to not only be Spider-Man’s equal but ended up besting him. That’s because she had no powers of her own, meaning she should’ve been beaten in seconds.
And yet, Spider-Man had next to no clue in battling Silver Sable, losing pretty much every time and only managing to stalemate her in his best effort. It would’ve made sense had she been given enhanced abilities, but Silver Sable was hardly special enough on paper to give Spider-Man such a walloping.
7 No Other Superheroes Around New York
There are several reasons why Spider-Man PS4 might be the best exclusive on the platform, but it won’t rank high in the best representatives for Marvel as a whole. This is due to the lack of other superheroes around New York, which is hardly the case in the comics.
It shouldn’t be like this in the game either, seeing as it was confirmed that other Marvel superheroes do actually exist within this continuity. Considering this, there should have been a bunch of superheroes like Daredevil, Iron Man, and more that Spider-Man had to come across.
6 The Government Letting New York Go To Ruin
At one point in the game, everything goes south for the city after the villains’ machinations work and Spider-Man is hunted. New York takes a turn for the worst when riots begin to happen and literal smoke is seen rising around various places.
This would be a national-level threat if logic comes to play, especially since New York is a vital hub worldwide, not only for the United States. Still, there are no government departments that try to intervene, with just Mayor Osborn in charge even though it should have been something that the president himself should have looked into.
5 Doctor Octavius’s Logic Of Peter Being Spider-Man’s Friend
Doctor Octopus was one of the villains that fans wanted back for Spider-Man: Miles Morales. What they didn’t want was his brainless logic, which almost killed the smart image he’s associated with. Earlier on in Spider-Man PS4, Otto saw Peter with the Spider-Man suit, yet was dumb enough to think Peter was Spider-Man’s friend rather than the superhero himself.
There’s no chance of him lying at that moment either, as Octavius later claimed he had deduced Peter’s identity as Spider-Man, not because of catching him earlier. It made no sense how a genius like Otto would have been unable to put two and two together.
4 Spider-Man Never Managing To Get Evidence Against Kingpin
It was shown that Kingpin used to be the main villain for Spider-Man in this universe when the story began. They’d had a rivalry for about eight years by that point, making it ludicrous how Spider-Man had never managed to gather evidence to take Kingpin down for his crimes.
He was shown to be a proficient detective in his own right, while Mary Jane’s entire life seemed to be devoted to finding evidence against criminals. It’s impossible to believe that Spider-Man and Mary Jane had no luck bringing Kingpin down for almost a decade despite their frequent antagonism.
3 JJJ Blaming Spider-Man For Crimes After Kingpin’s Capture
Some fans were so exasperated by JJJ’s repeated accusations throughout the game that they preferred Miles Morales to be the next protagonist purely to stop hearing JJJ’s whining. Most of it didn’t even make sense, namely how he blamed Spider-Man for crime rising after Kingpin’s capture.
Spider-Man hadn’t been the one to begin the apprehending of Kingpin, as he was only there to help the authorities. Even if Spider-Man hadn’t intervened, Kingpin would still have been pursued and eventually caught, making JJJ’s argument wrong from the start.
2 Backpacks Remaining Webbed Years Later
For the most part, side missions in Spider-Man PS4 were rather weak. These also brought further things that escaped one’s understanding, with the backpacks to be found opening up quite a big question about Spider-Man’s webbing.
Peter himself revealed that the webbing formula dissipated after an hour or two at most, yet these backpacks remained webbed after literal years. It’s not possible that the webbing could have lasted for so long, especially since Peter wasn’t shown to be all that adept at making it anyway.
1 Spider-Man Acting Like A Novice Despite Being Active For Almost A Decade
Ultimately, it didn’t make any difference that Spider-Man had been active as a superhero for eight years, as he still acted like a total rookie. Every villain surprised him and their abilities were new to him, making the passage of time immaterial.
What’s worse is that Spider-Man also had the attitude of a novice, which really shouldn’t have been the case since he was supposed to have faced a lot of crime by this point. And yet, Peter’s mannerisms were that of a teenager, thereby causing the premise of a mature Spider-Man to buckle.
