Breath of the Wild instantly became one of the most beloved titles in The Legend of Zelda franchise. Though players found the exploration and shrines to be a lot of fun, the story lacked compared to games such as Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess. Earlier this year, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity was announced, which would reveal a lot of the events from Breath of the Wild‘s lore.
Now that the game is out, players find it to be even better than expected. The story not only serves as a prequel to Breath of the Wild, but also introduces another timeline in the universe. Throughout the story, there were a lot of memorable quotes that fans love.
10 “I Will Fight…To Fulfill My Duty, Until The Very End. That’s Really…All I Can Do.”
Throughout the game, Zelda was unable to see how powerful she really was. She thought that everyone around her, especially Link, was doing more to save Hyrule than she was. However, after saving her friends, Impa made her realize how important she was to them. Zelda said these words, foreshadowing what fans knew was coming. After most of her comrades died and Link fell asleep, Zelda would be the one to save Hyrule for 100 years from Calamity Ganon’s wrath.
9 “This Attack Proves Your Point. We Are Woefully Unprepared To Defend Against The Calamity. The Zora Will Face This Peril Head On. We Must Consider The Future. We All Share This Land Of Hyrule, So All Of Us Must Do Our Part.”
Though he was hesitant at first, King Dorephan, the Zora’s leader, came to accept his daughter becoming a Champion. Mipha’s role was to pilot Vah Ruta. It wasn’t until they were attacked by Moblins and Bokoblins that King Dorephan understood the danger Hyrule faced. He agreed to allow Mipha to play her part in saving their world as long as she promised to return. Players of Breath of the Wild know how tragic this promise was.
8 “In Our Long History, We Have Scarcely Faced A Threat Of This Magnitude. The Years Have Passed Quickly Since Calamity Ganon’s Revival Was Prophesied. Yes, We Have Unearthed The Divine Beasts And Filled Volumes With Our Knowledge Of Ancient Relics. But A Barricade Of Books Will Not Protect Us.”
In the beginning of the game, King Rhoam said these words to his soldiers. A group of Bokoblins and Moblins approached Hyrule Castle as he led his army into battle against them. Players used Link and Impa to fight against all of them in the first battle of this installment.
In the middle of the action, they discovered the little Guardian, who would be essential to the title’s plot. One of the first scenes in the game showed players a glimpse of the great story they would experience.
7 “Go, Now! You Are The Knight To Princess Zelda. I Trust That You Understand Your Duty. My Daughter…Protect Her.”
On Zelda’s seventeenth birthday, Calamity Ganon finally returned. After a Guardian attacked the princess, King Rhoam saved her and Link. Knowing that more enemies would arrive, the Champions wanted to help defend the kingdom. However, King Rhoam wouldn’t allow this, knowing that his daughter may die, and had them leave as he said his final words. Upon seeing all that Calamity Ganon caused, Zelda felt like she failed her kingdom and loved ones.
6 “How Long Can We Stand By And Watch Them Get Away With It? No Longer, I Say. I Will Pilot This Divine Beast. You Are Precious To Me, And You Need My Help. I Cannot Refuse.”
When arriving at Gerudo Town, Link, Zelda, and Impa are attacked by the Gerudo. They ask Urbosa, the leader of the Gerudo, why she turned against them. However, they quickly learn that the Yiga Clan’s master, Kohga, was disguising himself as Urbosa in order to kill Zelda. The heroes battle against the Yiga Clan, who end up retreating. Urbosa agrees to join Zelda, Link, and Impa in order to defeat Calamity Ganon and the Yiga Clan.
5 “Fate Decides All, Even This Defeat. As You Well Know, If You Decided To Turn Against Me, You Would Make An Enemy Of Calamity Ganon. So You See, Then. Good. We Will Need Each Other’s Help If We Are To Achieve Our Grand Purpose. In The Name Of Calamity Ganon, You And I Are Bound. Let Us Turn Our Eyes To The Task Before Us, Yes?”
In the beginning of the game, Astor worked with the Yiga Clan in order to bring Calamity Ganon back. After the Yiga Clan lost in battle, they were upset with Astor for not telling them what would happen as he is a seer.
However, knowing that he was more powerful than they were, he calmly said these words in order to avoid being attacked by them. They continued to work together until Astor betrayed them, leading the Yiga Clan to assist Hyrule.
4 “Forgive Me. A Deep Slumber Beckons, And Even I Cannot Refuse. You Have All That Is Needed To Face Whatever Destiny Awaits. Hyrule’s Fate Is In Your Hands.”
The Great Deku Tree has always been an important and wise character in The Legend of Zelda and fans were pleased to see him return in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. After Link obtained the Master Sword, he, Zelda, and the rest of the Champions encountered the Great Deku Tree. He explained to them how Link would become the hero that Hyrule needs and that the Master Sword would be the weapon to defeat Calamity Ganon. Though he hoped that they would win, he couldn’t speak to them for long.
3 “I Will Never Forget Today’s Miracles. How All Of You Fought By My Side, And The Trials We Overcame Together…I’ll Treasure…Our Friendship Always. And Now, As You Return To Your Future…May The Light Shine Upon You, For All Time.”
In the middle of the battle against Hyrule’s enemies, the Champions met with future versions of the next generation of heroes. Sidon, Yunobo, Teba, and Riju helped their comrades fight. At the end of the game, they all returned to their timeline and said their goodbyes to those they’ve always admired. Urbosa told Riju that she would make a great leader, Daruk and Yunobo agreed to remember each other, Teba told Revali that he was happy to meet him, and Mipha and Sidon said that they would always be with each other through their hearts. Zelda said these words as they left, bringing this installment to its conclusion.
2 “Your Heart…Your Boundless Compassion…With Those Precious Gifts, You Have Saved My Life. While I Accused You Of Evading Your Duty…In Truth, Perhaps I Was Guilty Of The Same. Forgive Me.”
As this installment is set in an alternate timeline than Breath of the Wild, many changes were made from the critically acclaimed title’s story. However, players did not expect King Rhoam to survive the battle he died in. When Zelda reunited with her father, she was as surprised as the fans were. He explained that the relic she gifted him saved his life. He went on to apologize to the princess for how he treated her and the two led their kingdom into battle together.
1 “Hyrule Wields The Divine Beasts And Their Champions. We Are Armed With The Knight Whose Sword Will Seal The Darkness. And…We Shall Strike With You. You, Brave Soldiers! Everyone, You Are Mine To Lead Now. Calamity Ganon…Will Be Sealed Away Forever With The Power I Possess! Together, Standing In Strength, We Begin Our March. Hyrule’s Fight—To Rescue All Within It—Is Now!”
When Link fought against the Blights all on his own, Zelda refused to leave him. Finally finding her power, she defeated the Blights and saved Link. After the battle against Astor and the Yiga Clan, Zelda approached her people and gave them a speech to encourage them. They cheered and raised their swords in the air, ready to battle their enemies once more. These words proved to both herself and to them that she really was the leader she was destined to be.
