It’s become a tradition for Assassin’s Creed titles to leave out details hidden in the game for fans to find. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla continues this practice, to the point where vital aspects of the story have to be uncovered in order to learn more about them.
This also includes sequences that can be played for several more hours, making the hidden details all the more important to learn about. In other areas, these take the form of Easter eggs and references which are hints for what’s to come and how to make the gameplay experience a lot more fun by handing out certain clues.
10 Desmond’s Final Days
Desmond’s name always pops up for assassins that fans want to see make a return. Interestingly, he did return in some way through Layla Hassan’s laptop. This won’t be known to anyone unless they step out of the Animus and access the laptop.
Inside, there are files containing voice recordings made by Desmond during his final days in Assassin’s Creed III. These show what his mindset was before he made his sacrifice and how he was coping with the responsibility he had.
9 The Clues To Codex Pages
Hytham sets Eivor upon a hunt for codex pages after opening up the Hidden Ones’ bureau in the settlement. The problem is that none of these are highlighted on the map, making many players believe that they would need to stumble upon the pages.
However, the clues to finding the codex pages are hidden in the details, in that you need to decipher the riddle of sorts found in the inventory. These cover historical facts about England, through which the exact locations can be figured out on the map based on who was in power at the time.
8 Satellites Falling From The Sky
The return to the calamity angle of Assassin’s Creed III led to numerous plot holes and inconsistencies in Valhalla. A common complaint is how the catastrophe only seems to be alluded to rather than seen. However, that’s not the case.
In order to understand just how dire the situation is, players need to leave the Animus and take Layla outside the cabin. By going to the edge of the map, Layla will witness a few satellites crashing into Earth.
7 Romancing Randvi
For many, Randvi is one of the more annoying characters in the game who whines about her problems and doesn’t have much to do. What many don’t know is that Randvi’s characterization can be explored, and she can even be a romantic option.
This can be seen if the player decides to ask how Randvi is doing rather than simply choose the alliance option when speaking to her. Randvi claims she doesn’t want to talk about it the first time, but pressing her further will reveal a mission where she accompanies Eivor, at the end of which the player can make their romance official.
6 Stepping Into Asgard
While this one does have a waypoint marker, that arrives much later and players might be unaware that the entire Norse gods subplot can be experienced the whole time. To do so, Eivor needs to have upgraded her settlement to at least a level 3.
Following this, the Seer Valka arrives at the settlement and concocts various potions that allow Eivor to tap into the memories of Odin. This opens up a whole story about Asgard and the other realms, with the runtime of this playthrough easily being more than 10 hours.
5 Fighting With The Hidden Blade
The lack of assassin techniques is one of the weakest aspects of the gameplay in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. For most, it’s the lack of use for the hidden blade, but that doesn’t necessarily have to be the case since the blade can actually be used as a legit weapon.
This isn’t clear as part of basic gameplay, so to do so one has to unequip the usual weapons and only keep the hidden blade. When this is done, Eivor will automatically start using the blade as her main weapon and bring in a new take on combat.
4 Using Flyting To Avoid Combat
Comparisons have naturally made between Odyssey and Valhalla over which things each game does better than the other. As far as avoiding a fight is concerned, Valhalla presents a hidden option through the use of flyting.
This isn’t just a random game but a highly useful way of talking your way out of confrontations. Mastering flyting gives Eivor more charisma, which she can employ in the optional conversations and influence characters to do as she says, thereby eliminating the need to fight.
3 Going Fishing
Obtaining health packs can be a real drag in the game, but there’s a good way to find food naturally. This is through fishing, which doesn’t seem like an option at first. It remains hidden until Eivor upgrades the settlement to tier 2, following which the fishing hut opens up.
After gaining this ability, Eivor can go to any large body of water and employ a fishing rope in order to catch her food. There’s an entire process that goes into this aspect, making it a fun side mission that can be played at frequent points. As if there weren’t enough reasons to consider Eivor the best assassin, right?
2 Horses Having The Ability To Swim
Controlling the horse isn’t really much fun in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, mostly because the animal doesn’t seem to be any better than using Eivor to traverse areas. Well, that can be rectified, although the manner to do so remains hidden unless the horse stable in the settlement is upgraded.
By doing so, the horse can be upgraded to swim as well, which will come as a massive boost to the gameplay since the lack of this ability causes many hindrances. By enabling the swimming upgrade, traveling from one place to another becomes a whole lot easier.
1 Finding The Animus Anomalies
Many felt the modern-day storyline was rushed in the climax of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, leading to several fan theories. It won’t feel this way should a player find all of the Animus anomalies, which give further insights into the time of the Isu and what’s to come.
These are deliberately hidden across the world and can only be accessed by stumbling upon them. The anomaly presents itself as a glitch of sorts and will turn Eivor into Layla. The latter then needs to be used to complete platforming and puzzle sequences to capture the anomaly.
