Apex Legends Bug Traps Players Inside Crates on Winter Express

It’s not unusual for ongoing titles such as Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends to have bugs or exploits that affect a player’s experience. For example, recently one player found an instant-kill bug on Apex Legends‘ newest map, Olympus. However, one concern regarding the December 2020 Holo-Day Bash has been reported by a wide variety of users, and to many it ruins the spirit of the limited-time event.

The event began on December 1, and includes a mode called Winter Express. Three squads spawn on a train making its way around the World’s Edge map, and victory is achieved by maintaining control King of the Hill-style. New elements like losing teams spawning outside of the train each round have been added to shake up this year’s event, according to EA’s initial announcement post, which should help players stay invested even if the Holo-Day Skin Pack has upset some fans.

However, the challenge of maintaining control in Winter Express has been seemingly negated by a glitch that traps players inside of a crate on the central part of the train. Numerous examples of this happening have been posted to the r/apexlegends subreddit by users including Solalgaleo, SirKona, and Bvllish. Players cannot attack or be attacked through the walls of the crate when trapped, leading to easy victories, which has been corroborated by multiple Apex Legends players in these posts’ comments.

However, it seems the centralized crate is not the only buggy object found in Winter Express. Another Reddit user named Raisijaf posted a video of them getting stuck inside the barrier protecting a Christmas tree within one of the train cars. Both bullets and external objects like Lifeline’s healing drone are unable to escape the confides, though user Bvllish said they were able to take some damage when hit by thermite in the corner of the crate.

Though this problem has been occurring since the event’s launch based on the dates of different Reddit posts, users like Solalgaleo have apparently encountered it as recently as December 6. Even if Apex Legends Season 7 engagement is down overall, it would behoove Respawn Entertainment to address this kind of game-breaking issue as soon as possible.

The Apex Legends development team is not particularly active with regards to discussing the game and addressing these issues on social media, though according to one Respawn Entertainment dev this is because of toxic player behavior such as harassment and sending death threats. Even so, it’s likely the team is aware of its Holo-Day Bash issue by now, so maybe it will be fixed before the end of the year.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version in development.
