Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Fans Notice Frustrating Attachment Detail

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launched with the popular Gunsmith system from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Although Treyarch did make some changes, the core idea of Gunsmith stayed relatively the same. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fans can equip up to 5 attachments per gun and customize it to each person’s preference.

While there is a constant debate among the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War community about which loadouts are best, fans have noticed one major difference in the Gunsmith system. In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the attachments each offered a unique buff/nerf tradeoff depending on the parts function. Upon closer inspection, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War may not follow the same rules.

Reddit user tkilla96 watched BlameTruth on YouTube when they noticed something odd about the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War attachments.  While Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War allows players to see each attachment’s exact effects, fans noticed that some attachments are strictly better than others. In the example given, the player showcases two distinct muzzle attachments that offer flash concealment. While one provides higher concealment than the other, the lower concealment item also comes with several players’ debuffs, including fire time and movement speed.

This means that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players can choose between the higher concealment with no cons or the lower concealment with two cons. The choice is obviously the first for many fans, as the second option makes almost no sense. The second option is unlocked later in the gun’s level up progression tree despite being the obviously weaker choice, confusing fans further as they look into the system.

Many fans have gone back in the comments and checked through Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s attachments. While most buffs and debuffs make sense in the previous game, they do not match the bonuses found in the newer title. Aside from the obvious realism concerns, fans wonder if the developers have considered each attachment’s actual function on the guns.

Despite the several cases found by fans, there is an equal amount of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War attachments that make perfect sense. It seems that the developers have their definite favorites, and those favorites have quickly made their way into the game’s meta and pro-tier loadouts.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
