Whenever a live game like Fortnite gets a big update, as it did this week with the start of Season 5, there’s always a good chance that players will discover some new glitch that allows them to break it to their advantage. The latest example of this, however, makes it especially easy for Fortnite players to score wins, as it lets them do so from deep within the storm.
No one needs to be reminded that the storm will kill them if they stay in it long enough, but Season 5 has inadvertently introduced a way to get around that. Amid the changes made to Fortnite’s map in the aftermath of Season 4’s climatic Galactus event, the Zero Point landmark at the center of the map was updated. Now, whenever players are taking damage, they can jump into the orb to restore their health.
While hardly problematic on paper, the problem is that there’s no limit to the number of times a player can jump into the orb during a match, and no cooldown between heals. Players have been able to abuse this by camping out next to the Zero Point when the storm passes over it. As a clip shared by Silv3erz on Reddit shows, they can heal themselves faster than the storm can damage them, and as such they can effectively stay out of bounds forever, easily securing a Victory Royale as the storm swallows up the remaining players.
This is only the latest game-breaking bug that’s been found in Season 5 so far. Not long after it went live, players discovered that the quicksand in the map’s new desert area gave them the ability to turn invisible and gain invincibility, which forced Epic Games to disable the sand tunneling feature that could trigger it.
As of this writing, the issue with the Zero Point has yet to be added to the official Fortnite Trello board where Epic tracks the issues it’s working on, though it’s possible the developer hasn’t become aware of it yet and will get to addressing it as soon as it does. Needless to say, any glitch that lets one cheat death outside the circle is something that would be best removed from the game as soon as possible.
Until then, though, it will still be possible to abuse the Zero Point to get easy wins, so players should probably keep an eye out for any teams that appear to be setting up camp around it. Of course, that may prove to be a bit of a hassle while trying to do other things like unlocking the Beskar Mandalorian skin, but it will likely be less frustrating than ending up alone in the final circle with no one to shoot and no way to win.
Fortnite is free-to-play for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
