As players make their way through the wings of Torghast, Tower of the Damned in World of Warcraft‘s Shadowlands expansion, they will occasionally encounter locked chests that are marked with four runes. In order to open these chests, fans will need to solve a puzzle connected to the runes, though the way that is done may be not be immediately obvious. Fortunately, there is a very simple way to open rune locked chests in World of Warcraft, and full details on that process can be found in this guide.
To start, these chests in Torghast are opened by getting all four of the runes to the correct color, and the color of the runes can be changed by interacting with the skulls that sit in front of them. However, a skull does not simply alter the rune that is directly behind it, and it will instead affect a set number of runes. More specifically, one of the skulls will change all four of the runes when interacted with, another will change three, another will change two, and yet another will change just one.
With that established, here is exactly what WoW players should do upon encountering a rune locked chest in Torghast:
- Interact with each of the four skulls, learning which skull controls four runes, which controls three, which controls two, and which controls one.
- Interact with the skull that controls four runes until the chain behind it disappears.
- Interact with the skull that controls three runes until the chain behind it disappears.
- Interact with the skull that controls two runes until the chain behind it disappears.
- Interact with the skull that controls one rune until the chain behind it disappears.
Ultimately, this should leave players with a chest that has no chains, and they can freely loot the cache from there. WoW fans that perform this looting will receive an Anima Power for their efforts, giving them an extra edge as they continue to ascend Torghast. While it is true that the Anima Powers that come from rune locked vaults are not always stellar, it is typically worth taking the small amount of time required to execute the process outlined above.
To note, this not the only type of chest that players will find during their time in Torghast, and indeed there is another that centers around lever puzzles. Unlike with the rune locked chests, though, there is no simple solution to these lever chests in Shadowlands, and fans that wish to open them will simply need to try all of the possible combinations until they land on the right one. That makes this second type of chest in World of Warcraft slightly more tedious to loot, but it is still not extremely difficult to extract the prizes that are inside of them.
