Scheduled to take place on December 10, Geoff Keighley’s annual Game Awards is slated to include a number of big announcements. Mediatonic will be at the event talking about Fall Guys Season 3, InnerSloth will be revealing a new Among Us map, and BioWare will be making an appearance to talk about Dragon Age 4.
Thanks to a new announcement by the game’s Twitter account, fans now know they’ll be getting another major debut with Warhammer 40,000: Darktide primed to be a part of The Game Awards 2020. The Xbox Series X console exclusive will be presenting its first gameplay footage, showing off its four-player cooperative style.
For those who aren’t aware of the upcoming Warhammer game, Darktide was first revealed at the Xbox Series X showcase this year. Developed by Fatshark, the team behind the Warhammer: Vermintide games, it seems this new title will utilize the same Left-4-Dead-inspired co-op gameplay the studio has become known for. This time, the team will be shifting to a different part of the series’ extensive universe, focusing on four Imperial Guardsman as they battle an eerie cult attempting to overtake the planet of Atoma Prime. Its trailer implies that it will bear a lot of similarities to Vermintide, showcasing a small squad taking on hordes of enemies.
It should be interesting to see exactly what Fatshark opts to show at the event, whether it be a brief snippet of gameplay or a longer, more extensive slice of in-game footage. Fans know that the title will be a console exclusive for Xbox Series X and is set to debut next year, so with The Game Awards taking place three days from now, they won’t have to wait long to see what Fatshark has cooking up with the release of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide.
Alongside showcasing the next game in the Warhammer series, the Game Awards will also see several games battle it out to secure some of the year’s most coveted accolades. From Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Spider-Man: Miles Morales to Among Us and Fall Guys, several games will be going head to head to net a trophy this Thursday. However, the biggest battle will be for the show’s Game of the Year award, with Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us 2, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Hades, and Doom Eternal all duking it out to win the trophy.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is slated to release on PC and Xbox Series X in 2021.
