Genshin Impact is nearly a month into its first significant update, Version 1.1, and players expect the next major addition to be showing up soon. Though a date has yet to be officially confirmed, leaks indicate that December 23 is the likely launch date for Version 1.2, which is set to introduce a new region among other things.
Travelers are most looking forward to Version 1.2 of Genshin Impact because leaks, rumors, and small hints from miHoYo seem to indicate the developer will introduce the icy mountainous region known as Dragonspine. The region is currently visible and approachable on the game’s map, but once a player attempts to cross its boundaries, they are forced back in the opposite direction.
Aside from presenting players with an entirely new terrain to explore, players expect the Dragonspine update to introduce several new playable characters, alongside weapons and enemies. Now, leaker NEP NEP’s latest tweets seem to indicate the upcoming snowy mountain ranges may actually challenge players with several completely new Elite Boss and Unique Enemy encounters.
Namely, the leaked map image depicts three icons associated with powerful Genshin Impact enemy encounters, one of which is shown off in a series of follow-up images by NEP NEP. The leftmost pin on the leaked map marks the location of the monster revealed by the leak: something that resembles an evolved Cryo Regisvine. To its right is a pin marking the location of what fans are referring to as a “Pyro Oceanid.” Above the Pyro Oceanid is some sort of cross or statue figure. Players speculate this may be tied to an upcoming leaked event concerning an odd substance called Glimmering Tincture.
These leaks also suggest the enhanced Cryo Regisvine may be tied to the recently-leaked Festering Fang event as well, because its purported flavor text describes it “absorbing the power of the sword.” Similar language is used throughout the leaked images regarding this upcoming special event.
The “Pyro Oceanid” presents an interesting prospect to Travelers, as the Oceanid is presently one of Genshin Impact‘s stand-out bosses. It’s classified as a Unique Enemy, meaning when players encounter the Oceanid, they learn a bit about its backstory, and subsequently defeat waves of Hydro Element conjurations. Players never actually fight an Oceanid directly, they merely fend it off by defeating its magical apparitions. A Pyro version of this enemy would not only introduce a new challenging fight, but also the possibility of entirely new upgrade materials.
Genshin Impact is available now on the App Store, Google Play, PC, and PS4, and is currently in development for Switch.
