2021 is turning out to be a promising year for PlayStation with a myriad of next-generation and cross-generation titles headed to PS4 and PS5. Gran Turismo 7 is one of those titles that will be making its way to Sony’s shiny new console and as it seems, it may only be available on the PS5.
Announced earlier this year at Sony’s PS5 event, Gran Turismo 7 is the eighth entry in Sony’s flagship simulation racing series Gran Turismo. While the details regarding the game have been pretty scarce, its PlayStation store description has revealed a plenty of information including its next-generation capabilities.
Fans expecting the game to hit the PS4 and PS4 Pro may be disappointed as it may be exclusive to Sony’s next-gen system. This news comes courtesy of a new PlayStation video that lists out some of the latest releases as well as the upcoming titles that are coming to the PS4 and PS5. In the case of Gran Turismo 7, however, it’s labeled as “PlayStation 5 Exclusive”, coming 2021. In contrast, other titles such as Horizon Forbidden West are listed only as “PlayStation Exclusive”, which has been confirmed earlier to be a PS4 title as well.
Developer Polyphony Digital has yet to comment on the matter, however, if this listing is correct then the PS5 owners are in for a treat. Sony has previously confirmed that Gran Turismo 7 is targeting 4K resolution, HDR, and 60 FPS on the PS5. Additionally, according to PlayStation EVP in Europe, Simon Rutter, Gran Turismo 7 will benefit from every next-gen defining features, which includes little to no loading time.
Unlike previous generations, Sony is willing to support the PS4 at least until 2022, as is indicated by the PS5 backward compatibility features and the releases as well as announcements of some major cross-generation titles such as Spider-Man Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West, etc. Moreover, Sony Santa Monica’s next entry in the God Of War saga, God Of War Ragnork is also rumored to be headed to the PS4. While seeing these games on Sony’s current-gen seems like a smart move, considering its 114 million user base, it may also hold back the PS5 from achieving its full potential. Since Gran Turismo 7 is headed only to the PS5, players can expect a similar visual leap as was seen in this year’s Demon’s Souls.
Gran Turismo 7 is currently in development exclusively for the PS5.
