Marvel Studios’ will launch its line-up of Disney+ projects with the premiere of Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany’s WandaVision. Now, Disney has released five new WandaVision posters paying tribute to the sitcoms that inspired the anticipated series.
By the time Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War began, Wanda Maximoff and The Vision’s bond had already developed into a full-blown romance. Unfortunately, their relationship was challenged by the arrival of Thanos and his underlings, who sought to retrieve the Soul Stone that had given The Vision life. Despite their best efforts, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes were unable to prevent Thanos from murdering Vision to acquire the Soul Stone and though they were able to undo the Mad Titan’s decimation in Avengers: Endgame, Vision’s fate was tragically irreversible.
Set after the events of Endgame, WandaVision follows Maximoff and Vision as they attempt to live out an idyllic suburban life within a world that appears to emulate television sitcoms. Over the past five days, Disney has been unveiling new posters for the series, with each one featuring a television set designed to showcase how the devices have evolved over the years. Displayed on each monitor is a different photo of Maximoff and Vision in outfits reflecting the visual styles of sitcoms from the ’50 through the ’90s. While the decor of each poster changes as well, one consistent is a tear on the wallpaper that reveals colorful static from behind, indicating Maximoff’s world is more illusion than reality.
In addition to being the first Marvel Studios series to premiere on Disney+, the series will officially kick off Phase 4 of the MCU franchise. The honor had previously been designated to Black Widow, but the COVID-19 pandemic eventually resulted in Marvel Studios’ entire slate of 2021 features being postponed until the following year. Though Black Widow will still be the first feature film of Phase 4, it is currently scheduled to be released in theaters in May 2021, roughly fourth months after WandaVision‘s debut.
Marvel Studios’ lineup of Disney+ projects will initially focus on supporting characters from the company’s feature films, including Tom Hiddleston’s Loki as well as Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier and Anthony Mackie’s Falcon. However, certain shows will introduce brand new characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe before they are included in the films.
Among the newcomers expected to make their debuts on Disney+ are Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk. Marvel Studios has cast Iman Vellani for the role of Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel while Tatiana Maslany has reportedly landed the role of She-Hulk, though the latter actress has denied such claims.
Marvel Studios’ WandaVision will be released exclusively on Disney+ on January 15, 2021.
