Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: How To Obtain Excalibur | Game Rant

Maybe it’s the stats, maybe it’s the shiny look, and maybe it’s the lore of knighthood that calls Assassin’s Creed Valhalla players to retrieve the mighty Excalibur. Most likely, it’s a bit of all three. Regardless of the reason, getting it into the hands of Eivor is a worthy venture, but it isn’t easy and players who embark on the journey must be explorers, problem-solvers, and completionists.

This guide’s entries are lined up by proximity to cut down on travel time, so gamers who have yet to start on the journey can start at the top and, by the time they get to the bottom, this legendary, mythical, two-handed greatsword will be all theirs.

Two of these treasures are in the final, most-difficult area of the game. Thankfully, they’re puzzles, not combat scenarios, so don’t feel threatened unless an enemy spots Eivor along the way.

  • Enter the cave at this map location.
  • Hop on the boat and follow the river until stalagmites block the path.
  • On the right side are some handles drilled right into the cave wall. Climb up and follow the path marked with white edges.
  • Eivor will exclaim “They’ve left me a challenge.” Duck and go left through the opening.
  • The firepots are blocking a hole that leads directly to the treasure. Destroy them and collect the prize.

This one is just to the east of Wincestre City.

  • Enter the cave and don’t worry about left or right, all paths lead to a hole to duck down through.
  • Red lichen on the walls will confirm this is the right place to be. Ignore the ladders, they are distractions.
  • The path is straightforward but will take some climbing. Green gas is poisonous, so throw a torch at it and keep going.
  • Eivor will announce the location of a puzzle, but it’s nothing more than two green gas clouds that need two torches. Burn them away and keep following the white path to find the treasure, which will be front and center.

Continue east and out of the max level area. Another treasure awaits in Suthsexe, although it’s attached to a Zealot who needs to be killed.

  • Hrothgar patrols a very large area from the far west to the far east of Suthsexe.
  • His route goes through Crawleah, so search around there if he’s proving elusive.
  • He’s a level 280 brute-style enemy who wields a two-handed axe and fire, so use caution, hit him from range, and jump in after he finishes his swings.

Just on the border before arriving at Cent is the Santlacne Mine. It’s in the south-east, just south of a small, unnamed lake. It holds another treasure.

  • Enter the cave, the first door is blocked by rubble and easily cleared by a firepot that is right by the door. Simply shoot it with an arrow and head through.
  • Duck left through an opening. There is a ladder that can’t be reached, but a movable shelf right next to it can be placed underneath to fix this problem. Do this and head on up.
  • Another unreachable ladder appears, but it’s simply folded up and can be released with an arrow or a well-placed torch. Knock it down and climb up again.
  • After going down a zipline, there is another blocked door in the way and the firepots are just to the left of the landing spot. Pick one up, chuck it, and go through the door.
  • The path ends at a watermill, but dive down and to the left. Take a good breath, the tunnel to the left is easy to follow but it is long and blocked by breakable wood about halfway through.
  • Unlike most of the other treasures which are prominently displayed, this one is next to a skeleton and a shield next to the pool Eivor leaves from. Grab the artifact.

Moving on to Cent, this Zealot might not be too far from the last location, just keep going east into Cent.

  • His patrol is from the border of Suthsexe to Canterbury.
  • He follows the main roads, so don’t go exploring off the beaten path.
  • His power level is 220 and he’s of a medium build. His two-handed greatsword makes him slow with his attacks, so take advantage of the time between swings.

This is a two-for-one location, the Seer in Raventhorpe requires the fauna that grows in this location exclusively. They will be easy to find while completing the cavern. This treasure is the toughest of the bunch, but follow these steps and don’t get lost.

  • The “cave” entrance actually is in a house at the marked location. Enter and climb down the ladder.
  • This cave requires grabbing keys while in midair at several points, the first of which is right in front of Eivor after following the right wall. It unlocks the door just in front.
  • The second key is easily visible, but unreachable at first. Tightrope over a few lines and climb onto a rock with handles on the side, which leads to another tightrope. Position Eivor in a way that the key is in between the jump point and stalagmite, then jump and grab it.
  • Progress past this room and then through a noticeably fancy doorway on the left. The path is long but straightforward and the third key will be right in front of Eivor, just jump onto the stalagmite in front and grab the key in midair.
  • Move a boulder with a handle at the dead end, shift through the tight opening, then stay left.
  • A net with a bunch of rocks is in the way, hit the top with an arrow or torch and jump past them. Repeat this once more with another bunch of rocks and then again to extend a ladder. Climb up.
  • The next key is in between two tightropes and jumping from one to the other isn’t too hard. Leave the room.
  • Time to cash in on those keys. The first two gates lead to a large wealth chest and the third key allows Eivor to leave the room.
  • This next puzzle is fairly simple, the stalagmites block the path but the boulders with handles can be moved to jump over them.
  • At long last, the final area here will have the treasure innocently perched on a rock.

Leaving Cent and heading north to Essexe, the final Zealot needed for Excalibur is close by. Like the other two, he’s not too willing to part with his treasure.

  • Don’t go too far north, Heike patrols the border of Cent on the Essexe side.
  • He’s power level 250 with a massive shield, sword, and heavy armor.
  • Use poisons and fire effects to take him down. He will glow white (see picture), indicating he is going to heal, save any stuns and interruptions for this moment.

Keep heading north and before arriving at Colcestre, there is a lake. To the south of it is the entrance.

  • Don’t let the name fool anyone, the entrance is not in a cellar; it is, quite clearly, a cave.
  • There are no real tricks here, but plenty of distractions. Ignore the flammable gas on the floor. Hop over the river, there’s nothing of note underwater.
  • The path ends in a brick cellar with lots of kegs. The prize is stuck under a grate. Smash the nozzles and the room will flood, allowing the treasure to float to the top, Eivor will note audibly tell the player when it can be reached.
  • Do not feel the need to smash every barrel, some of which require ammunition and puzzle-solving. Save Eivor the hassle and the coin, break the easy ones and it’ll be reachable in no time.

Keep heading north all the way to East Anglia. The start of this puzzle is right on the western border with Grantebridgescire.

  • It’s hard to miss, it’s a gigantic hole in the ground. Go ahead and jump, there is a bale of hay not visible from the top, but it’ll be there to break Eivor’s fall.
  • Go through the only exit and follow the left side, making a few jumps along the way. If Eivor tries to squeeze past a crevice, that’s too far. Look for a room with scrolls and a table on the right side (pictured) and keep going.
  • Go across another chasm and on the other side, Eivor will scurry down a rockslide into a room filled with openly displayed skulls. This is where the word “Graves” comes from.
  • There are lots of ways to get lost from here, but there is only one ladder and that ladder is the correct direction, so head up and start jumping over obstacles again.
  • Past a black curtain with a crudely painted skull on it is a dead end with another table. Ubisoft got creative with this one; smash the jars on the desk, the treasure is inside one of them.

These last two are going to take a bit of travel since they are spaced out a lot more than the others on the southern end of England.

  • Find the Wiccan’s Cave, directly west of Jorvik. It’s got lots of ice crystals at the entrance, making it vibrant and easy to spot. Due to the ice, there is only one path possible on the right side, so it’s pretty easy to see where to start.
  • Slide down the rockslide into a large room with a tree as the centerpiece.
  • Climbing the tree allows Eivor to make it across a branch and onto a rock stalagmite and a higher ledge.
  • Continue to parkour along the right side. The only way forward is to go up a cliff and over another chasm, using the tightrope as a swing.
  • There is a crawlspace right in front of Eivor, but do not go under it yet. It leads to the exit and the treasure is still here. Look around the room and spot an area of the wall made of breakable ice. Break it with an arrow or torch.
  • The puzzle here is something most gamers will have done a hundred times by now. Break the two wooden walls on the right side and shoot through the window at a firepot. It explodes and reveals a door on the opposite side.
  • Go around and shoot through the new opening to break the barred door. This opens the front door and the treasure is right inside, next to a skeleton, in front of a sarcophagus.

This is the last one before getting the sword! Again, this one is not that close to its predecessor, but it’ll be worth the legwork in the end.

  • In the northwest portion of the map, just north of Hemsthorpe, there is a cave entrance. Within the first few steps, Eivor will notice a beautiful shade of blue paint splattered along the inside; this means Eivor is on the right track.
  • There is only one path through. After going through the crack in the cave, Eivor comments about finding the quickest challenge yet.
  • Loot the key on the skeleton next to the challenge note.
  • Unlock the only door and enter a room with rather large statues.
  • Don’t worry about getting lost, the blue paint is there to guide Eivor. Follow it on the left, jump across, then continue following it around. It will lead up and over the statue at the back of this room.
  • The blue hallway behind it only has one way to go and it’s right toward the treasure which is sitting on a pedestal.

Back to where the journey began! Claim the sword!

  • It won’t be labeled with a marker like the Zealots and Treasures of Britain, but the location of the sword is in Myrddin’s Cave in Hamtunscire.
  • Thankfully, this is the end of the puzzle-solving, Ubisoft decided to have mercy with this final phase. Place the tablets Eivor has collected on the pillars (one will already have a tablet inserted into it already). Then, pull the sword from the stone.

It’s only fair that Eivor gets to wield a sword fit for royalty after this adventure.
