Cobra Kai Season 3 Trailer is Here With Plenty of Punch and Nostalgia

Cobra Kai was a great acquisition for Netflix, after YouTube declined to guarantee a fourth season for the show, streaming’s biggest company swiftly grabbed it to get a karate hold on season 3 and 4. The move proved to be a great decision from Netflix with Cobra Kai leading the streaming charts the weeks that followed after it became available on the platform.

Now Cobra Kai is set to lead the charge for Netflix in 2021 when the Karate Kid reboot premieres its third season on January 8, hoping to retain its popularity. The show’s second season ended with a bang – or rather with lots of kicks and punches –leaving tons of unanswered questions and open storylines that promise an exciting third outing just like the recently dropped trailer suggests.

Previous teasers from Netflix showed glimpses of where Cobra Kai was headed to now, Japan to be specific, but the trailer shows more familiar faces making a comeback in the lives of Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka). After a brief recap of last season’s finale, the biggest takeaway here might just be Daniel and Johnny working together to stop John Kreese as the season’s main plot.

However, the trailer also shows Daniel running into a couple of familiar faces from Karate Kid II when visiting Okinawa, his old crush Kumiko and his main antagonist Chozen Toguchi, both of them, of course, being played again by Tamlyn Tomita and Yuji Okumoto. Meanwhile, the younger protagonists also have a lot on their hands, with Robbie seen in juvenile detention and his victim Miguel working his way to recovering from his injuries; the same goes for their love interests Sam and Tory, as well their dojo friends, all shown adapting to a new world surrounding them.

One notable absentee from the Cobra Kai ranks is Aisha Robinson, after actress Nichole Brown had already confirmed she wouldn’t be taking part in season 3. Overall, Cobra Kai looks ready to offer viewers that same successful formula that made the series big before, with plenty of karate, teen drama, grown-ups behaving like teenagers, and surely plenty of Karate Kid II flashbacks.

Season 2 also ended with a glance at Johnny’s phone showing he’d texted Ali, so even if she’s not seen here there’s still plenty of time for her to show up in a new trailer to give Daniel and Johnny just what they need, another blast from the past.

Cobra Kai is available on Netflix with season 3 scheduled for release on January 8, 2021.
