There’s no denying that Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the year’s most hotly-anticipated games, and soon the wait will be over. Fans have been waiting seven years to get their hands on Cyberpunk 2077, and for most people, the game will unlock for them at midnight local time. However, those who plan on playing Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox One or Xbox Series X can do a trick to play the game a little ahead of schedule.
Xbox console players who have Cyberpunk 2077 pre-loaded can technically play the game now if they change their console’s location. To do this, they will need go to the Xbox’s settings, then click on System, then Language & Location. From there, players need to change their location to New Zealand. After doing this, they should be able to access Cyberpunk 2077 right now instead of having to wait until it unlocks at midnight.
If players are unsuccessful, Johnny Silverhand will greet them with a message scolding them for trying to play the game early. However, numerous reports online have indicated that this does indeed work. That being said, players may want to be careful about doing this, as it could have some unforeseen consequences we’re not aware of.
Anyone that does do this will be able to play Cyberpunk 2077 without waiting until midnight and can see if there’s anything to worry about in regards to the console version. Since all of the Cyberpunk 2077 reviews that have been published so far have been written based on the PC version of the game, there’s been some concern that the PS4 and Xbox One versions have major issues. However, CD Projekt Red has reassured fans that Cyberpunk 2077 runs great on consoles as well as PC, and that many of its bugs will actually be fixed by the time console owners get to play it.
CD Projekt Red has issued a Cyberpunk 2077 patch that fixes many of the bugs that reviewers mentioned in their write-ups on the game. Generally speaking, almost all of the criticism aimed at Cyberpunk 2077 by reviewers focused on the game’s bugs and technical issues, so here’s hoping players have a smoother experience.
Of course, Cyberpunk 2077 should only improve with time. CD Projekt Red has plans to support the game for the long haul, with expansions planned alongside bug fixes and other updates. 2021 should see plenty of new Cyberpunk 2077 content released, including the next-gen PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game, which should theoretically run even better. Luckily, anyone that buys the current-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077 can upgrade to the next-gen version at no additional charge.
Cyberpunk 2077 launches December 10 for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
