It’s no secret that fans have had enough waiting for Cyberpunk 2077, as its multiple delays have kept them waiting long enough. Though the game is officially scheduled to release tomorrow on December 10th and some players have already begun preloading the new Cyberpunk game, there’s a trick that Xbox players can use in order to get ahold of it a day early (read: today).
Cyberpunk 2077 has long been one of the most anticipated games of 2020, and for a while fans weren’t sure if it would even end up releasing this year. Thankfully, the 2077 in its name wasn’t indicative of a release date, and some players are already starting to dig in with the help of this Xbox trick.
Unfortunately, this technique doesn’t work on any console other than Xbox, so players on PC or PS4 will have to wait until the game actually releases. That said, it will work for either the Xbox One, Xbox Series X, or Xbox Series S, so players using any of those three consoles can get started now.
In order to make this work, players need to change their Xbox’s “Language and Location” to New Zealand. This can be found in Settings>All Settings>System>Language and Locations, and will require a reboot of the console in order to take effect. Once the console reboots, it will behave as though the player was in New Zealand, and since Cyberpunk 2077 is already available in that region, the game can be downloaded and played today instead of waiting until tomorrow. At the time of writing, it is just after 7 AM in New Zealand, and Cyberpunk 2077 became available at midnight local time.
Of course, once it gets to midnight in whatever local time players are playing in, it’s important to remember to switch back the region to the correct one. There’s nothing in particular to penalize players from playing with their console in New Zealand, but the Microsoft Store will show all prices in New Zealand Dollars and there may be some issues that crop up when trying to play games online. Regarding switching back, several players have already reported being able to do so with ease without losing any progress in Cyberpunk 2077.
Using this trick, players can gain access to Cyberpunk 2077 a day early, and one day closer to the original release date as opposed to where it’s ended up after numerous delays. Regardless, it’s only a matter of time before Cyberpunk 2077 is finally available to everyone worldwide, so players on other consoles just need to be patient.
