Here’s how Doom Eternal on Switch compares to PS4 Pro

The Switch port of Doom Eternal looks fairly solid, all things considered.

Doom Eternal is finally out on Switch, which inevitably means someone put the Switch version side-by-side with the more powerful home consoles. In this case, we’re looking at Doom Eternal on PS4 Pro compared to the Switch version.

The video above by GameXplain really puts into perspective the sacrifices made to get the game running on Switch. Right off the bat, the drop in resolution is very apparent. Things get worse the more of the video you watch, as textures, models and effects all appear drastically less sharp.

This isn’t necessarily a knock against the game, however. It is impressive that it’s running on Switch at all, to say nothing of the fact that you essentially have a console game in your pocket, a benefit that cannot be overstated.

According to VG Tech, docked mode achieves a maximum resolution of 1280×720, with 896×504 as a minimum. Portable mode drops these figures further, to 1088×612 at the highest end, and 640×360 at the lowest.

As for framerate, Doom Eternal on Switch runs at 30fps in gameplay, which is the same performance target Doom 2016 had on Switch. In cutscenes, however, VG Tech noted that they are capped at 20fps in portable mode.

You can watch the video below for a better look at framerate.
