Pokémon Tournaments and Anime are Streaming on Twitch Right Now

Twitch is now one of the biggest, if not the biggest, livestreaming platforms out there. From independent creators to big corporations; anyone who wants to put themselves out to the world in real-time is probably doing it via Twitch. Now the latest company to jump on the livestreaming bandwagon is the Pokémon Company, which has been airing Pokémon events on Twitch, both in its game and anime form.

As announced on the official Pokémon Twitter account, December 6-12 features a live Twitch stream of various events taking place at the Pokémon Player’s Cup, with the gaps filled episodes of Pokémon Master Quest. The Player’s Cup is essentially a tournament event with two separate brackets. There will be one set of competitions revolving around the Pokémon trading card game, and another focused on Pokémon Sword and Shield. Both competitions are being livestreamed over this week, while several episodes of the anime are bridging the gaps on Tuesday and Thursday.

It’s nice to see the Pokémon Company bringing the tournament to as many people as possible and offering support for various versions of the game. They even suggest that, while it will not be available this time, they are looking into offering support for the spin-off fighting game Pokkén Tournament DX in future events. Bringing the event to Twitch will give it a much wider audience than it would have had otherwise, and will hopefully bring in a lot of fans and newcomers to the series. The episodes of the anime also make a nice time killer for those with idle hands on Tuesday and Thursday.

While the episodes being shown are from quite a while ago (Master Quest was a tie in to Pokémon Gold and Silver) they’re from the show’s classic period, when Ash, Misty, and Brock were still traveling together. It’s probably a good choice of time period for older fans who care about tournament games, as it is likely the version of the show they watched growing up. Not to mention the fact that the Ash/Misty/Brock trio is far and away the most iconic iteration of the Pokémon TV show. Those interested can tune into the official Pokémon Twitch Channel right now to watch before it all ends on the 12th.
