Deep Rock Galactic is bursting with humor and charm. While the game was in early access in 2018, many players got their first taste of gameplay when it fully released in May 2020. This cooperative first-person shooter has been entertaining fans ever since with its fun mechanics.
From completing hidden achievements to finding secret messages, there’s a lot hidden in the world of Deep Rock Galactic. With so much to find it’s no wonder some players still have missed some of what the game has to offer.
10 Recalibrate Gravity
We all float down here… In this case, players can actually choose whether they would like to float or not, though the ability only lasts for a limited time. Enterprising miners may have missed the button but anyone brave enough to ignore the warning not to touch it will find themselves suddenly able to fly through the air. This can lead to a lot of fun and even a few hidden areas of the ship.
9 Barrel Shenanigans
Feel like kicking around some barrels? Players with the patience to hunt down every single barrel in the game and kick them into the launch tube will be met by angry messages. They continue to increase in their fury until the final barrel is kicked in and mission control sends a final sarcastic quip to the player.
8 ERR://23¤Y%/
No, a cat didn’t walk across the keyboard while writing this article. Many players have considered this to be an easter egg while some even mistake it for a bug in the game. With ERR://019%T#/ also being a structure in the game we can promise this weirdly named item is quite intentional.
The ERR://23¤Y%/, known as the Error Cube by players, is an incredibly rare item in the game with only a 1/26 chance of spawning. If players collect five of these rare oddities they can complete the hidden achievement What Are These Things?.
7 Throw A Party
There’s nothing quite like a good party and Ghost Ships Games understand that so much they programmed an achievement into the game. Players seeking to get Party Time! hidden achievement must toast to good music while in a full team. Each player must have a beer in hand for the toast, so be sure everyone has a good drink. Players can also manage to get the It’s My Party achievement by running 50 missions as a host from start to finish.
6 Shoot Hoops
Deep Rock Galactic isn’t a basketball game but it doesn’t mean players can’t shoot some hoops! Players can throw a stein of beer (either full or empty) into the Barrel Hoop to unlock the hidden achievement That’s Not How You Play This Game.
Players a little more daring (or stupid) can drink until they receive the drunken status and hurl themselves into the Barrel Hoop. This does kill the player, unsurprisingly, but also unlocks the aptly named hidden achievement Darwin Award.
5 MORE Barrel Shenanigans
What is it with barrels and hidden achievements? Players looking for another hilarious chance to anger mission control will enjoy this little secret. Players can kick barrels into the drop pod and watch the fury get unleashed. Once every last barrel has been kicked inside, they’ll get a final message from mission control.
4 Have Happy Feet
Snow White might not be singing but the dwarves can certainly bust a move! Many players have enjoyed the goofy dance moves dwarves perform when putting music on the jukebox in-game but few watch for too long. Players with the patience to let their character dance for a full hour will unlock the Happy Feet hidden achievement.
The hidden achievement is a reference to the Happy Feet movies which have a story based around dancing penguins. Sadly there’s no way to find these arctic birds in the game (yet) but if it’s ever added we hope they can dance along.
3 Find Hidden Messages
Games having hidden messages is nothing new but the two messages in Deep Rock Galactic are certainly fun to hunt down. One can only be accessed by using the anti-gravity button and floating up to a hidden room before gravity returns. The other can be found by anyone grave enough to jump into the open green hole in the wall that can be quite hard to reach. Both messages read: Nothing here yet I’m afraid. But well done. 😀 – Rob
2 Be A Disk Jockey
A great soundtrack can really make a game and Deep Rock Galactic does have some fantastic jams. So why not listen to them all? Players that listen to all 25 songs, from start to finish, can unlock the hidden achievement Disk Jockey. It’s important players don’t try to skip ahead on any songs — they have to all be played from the very beginning to the very end.
1 EVEN MORE Barrel Shenanigans
Someone on the dev team really likes barrels. That and 80’s television shows. Players that carefully kick barrels can get a single barrel placed on each seat of the Space Pod. If they succeed, they will unlock the hidden achievement The A-Team. These four barrels are meant to represent Colonel John “Hannibal” Smith, Lieutenant Templeton “Faceman” Peck, Sergeant Bosco “B.A.” Baracus, and Captain H.M. “Howling Mad” Murdock from the classic TV show.
